Michael HunsweckCandidate Statement of Michael Hunsweck
Cupertino City Council
Occupation: Semiconductor Chip Engineer
As a Senior Process Engineer in the silicon chip
industry, my work is at the heart of what we do here in
Silicon Valley. I recently completed my Ph.D. in
Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. And I
also hold a Master's and Bachelor's degree from the
University of California, Irvine, where I graduated
Summa Cum Laude.
My engineering background, and the critical
thinking and problem solving skills that come with it, are
desperately needed in our government today. And with
so many residents of Cupertino working in the tech
industry, it makes a lot of sense to have a fellow engineer
on the City Council.
I believe character matters. Earlier this year, I spoke
out against SCA 5, which I believe was correctly dubbed
"Skin Color Act 5 ". It was clear to me that the goal of that
law was to cap Asian enrollment at California's
universities. In my opinion, the academic achievement
of California's Asian minority is a success story worth
celebrating. We ought to hold up outstanding students as
role models. They should never feel ashamed for doing
well.
