The work will involve a City provided arborist to determine which roots can safely be removed. If removing roots will significantly affect the health and/or stability or the trees the entire trees may need to be removed. The work will have to progress in stages to allow for arborist involvement. The work is detailed as follows: Traffic Control Close off bike lane and sidewalk during work. Provide sidewalk closed ahead warning signs and barricades at Bluejay Drive and Homestead Road. Provide required advance warning signs including "Share the Road" signs for bicyclist. Provide two "Bike Lane Closed Ahead" signs east of the project as directed by City. Place cones on the gutter side of the bike lane every 25 feet which will remain in place from initiation of work to completion of concrete and sidewalk replacement work. Traffic may be limited westbound to one lane between 9 AM and 4 PM on weekdays. During non-work hours, both lanes shall be open. Provide temporary signage as required for this work. Concrete Removal Remove existing concrete curb, gutter, sidewalk and driveway approach in their entirety. Sawcut at conforms. Remove base sufficiently to provide new required aggregate base. Be careful not to damage tree roots. Tree roots shall be located and exposed prior to removing base. Removal includes saw cutting pavement 12 inches away from gutter lip and removing pavement as well. Expose Tree Roots Using hand tools only, or an airspade remove base and soils around tree roots to a depth of 12 inches in preparation for arborist to inspect. Excavated soil and base shall be left alongside excavated area for replacement. Trim Roots as Directed by Arborist Provide two laborers with suitable equipment including a small chain saw and a fine-toothed saw appropriate for cutting wood to remove roots identified by arborist. Axes and similar tools are not to be used for root pruning. Provide truck for removing roots from site and disposal. Once roots are trimmed mark locations where roots continue under pavement. Scarify entire area under sidewalks excluding areas where roots are to remain to a depth of 6 inches, moisture condition and recompact to form subgrade for new aggregate base under sidewalk. Compaction shall be 90% per CT 216 or ASTM Di557. Arborist has discretion to decrease compaction requirements around roots to remain. Remove Trees (Alternate) If arborist determines trees may be removed, city will hire a contractor to remove trees. Place New Concrete Place new concrete Facilities per City Standards including aggregate at the same locations as removed. Comp(y with current ADA cross slope requirements. Cold Plane Full Depth (6" Min) Remove by cold planing a uniform 7-foot width the entire length of curb and gutter replacement. Remove Roots under Pavement Scarify and remove roots to a depth of 6 inches below mill depth. Remove roots and recompact to 95o/o relative compaction. Place %" HMA Place HMA in cold planed area per contract. R&R (3") Residentia( Driveway Pavement Sawcut at conform. Remove existing AC. Remove tree roots 6 inches deep. Repave with %" HMA. Remove and Replace AC Curb Remove and replace the AC curb on the side of the driveway pavement. Replace Bike Lane Install new bike lane markings after paving
