CC 05-18-2023 Item No. 1 Community Budget Town Hall Meeting_Written CommunicationsCC 05-18-2023 Written Communications Item No. 1 Community Budget Hall meeting to review the City Manager's proposed budget From:leebonds@comcast.net To:City Clerk Subject:May 18 Budget Town Hall for SF Shakespeare Festival Funding Continuation Date:Monday, May 15, 2023 10:20:11 AM CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. As a Cupertino resident for 40+ years, I find the city-wide events from Parks and Rec are an important unifying factor in our diverse community. Foremost among them is the SF Shakespeare Festival that draws parents, children, singles --all of our neighbors to a free educational and fun event outdoors every summer. For many, it is their first exposure to this type of performance and particularly children are drawn to seek out additional opportunities for reading, performance and deeper involvement in the arts. Sharing the common delight of SF Shakespeare Festival performances with new and current neighbors is an important way to connect and build relationships with our community. I urge you to continue the tradition (since 1995!) to maintain these important community and educational connections at a relatively minimal cost. PLEASE include SF Shakespeare Festival funding in the budget! It is necessary to keep this golf course and not sell it to developers or Audubon society . Find money somewhere else. I applied for community budget, but our program was declined. And I'm ok with that. In the meanwhile, our nonprofit conducts a lot of public works for free using out of our pocket money such as community cleaning behind Target building and offering stomach medicine and relief to homeless individuals. Even though our application was not approved as is, we do need some kind of community funding support to conduct what we believe is a public work. 1. Community cleanup where it's perpetually littered behind Target near DeAnza college. 2. Homeless outreach: buying them medicine, shampoo, soap, towels, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. Attached please find our flyers. Thank you for your consideration. Our nonprofit, God's Promise, would like to request $100 for the above public services that we perform in Cupertino. Additionally, I would like to point out that recently we have heard from some residents that recycling is not easy in Cupertino or anywhere in the Bay Area. We can call Recology Mountain View but it's like a big hussle, seems to me. I wonder if city could pick up recyclable items from resident's curbside, and the city will deliver them to Recology Mountain View. I believe that residents need connection with the city rather than with a corporation. And residents will get to have community conversation about how recycling can be more efficient. Nowadays, markers and pens are also recyclable. We have more items to recycle, such as CDs, headsets, earbuds, boll-point pens. Sincerely yours, Yuko Shima
