CC 07-18-2023 Item No. 9. Cristo Rey Bike Lanes Project Cost Sharing Agreement_Written CommunicationsFrom:David Stillman To:Peggy Griffin Cc:City Clerk; Matt Morley; Pamela Wu; Chad Mosley Subject:RE: 2023-07-18 City Council Meeting Agenda Item9-Bike Path on Cristo Rey Date:Monday, July 17, 2023 10:16:17 AM Hi Peggy, The section within Cupertino is continuous, between the eastern city limit (1450 feet west of Foothill) and the Forum. There will be no gaps in the bike lane other than at the roundabout, and that’s due to operational considerations. The 1450’ segment immediately west of Foothill is in Los Altos; MidPen should be coordinating with them for that piece. Hi David, Thank you for answering my questions! I never realized that Cristo Rey Drive was not entirely in Cupertino! So, this means this bike lane will ‘come and go’ as a biker enters and leaves Cupertino. Q: Are other jurisdictions being asked to ‘fill in the blanks’ along this route? Dear Director Stillman and City Council, Accepting this cost-sharing agreement with Mid-Pen brings up several questions regarding the proposed Class II Bike Path on Cristo Rey Dr: Q1: Would this mean “No Parking” signs would be installed along ALL OF Cristo Rey Dr or just a portion? “No Parking” signs are already installed along Cristo Rey within the City of Cupertino jurisdiction, which is the only portion of interest. This portion extends from approximately 1450 feet west of Foothill, to the northwesterly terminus. Codified in Muni Code Table 11.24.150. Q1a: If a portion, which part? See above Q1b: Would it be from the Forum to Rancho? Yes Q1c: Would it be from Foothill Blvd to Rancho? From 1450 west of Foothill to and beyond Rancho, to the Forum Q2: If parking would be removed, have the people/residents along this way been notified for their input? Not applicable Q3: The Bike/Ped Commission voted 3-2 on this item. What were the concerns of the 2 commissioners voting NO? There was discussion relating to whether bike lanes or sharrows would be a better solution for the downhill portions. The “no” votes reflected this uncertainty. Just FYI…below is a map of a portion of Cristo Rey Drive. I’ve circled in RED places along it that I’ve seen cars parked on my way to Rancho. One spot is by the entrance to the Hammond-Synder Loop so that people can access the hill overlooking the valley. You often see people up on that vista. The other spot is by the church. Are there other places? Parking is currently prohibited at the location circled on the left. The location circled on the right is outside of Cupertino’s jurisdiction and not a part of this project.
