CALL MEETING TO ORDER
Meeting was called to order at 7:06 pm
ROLL CALL
Commissioners Present: Rajaram Soundararajan, Eliza Du, Emma Shearin,

Commissioners Absent: Mukesh Garg

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Subject: Approve the July 5, 2023, regular meeting minutes.
Commissioner Shearin made a motion to approve the July 5, 2023, regular meeting minutes,
with amendment to page 7, with two corrections: (1) correcting “Major Hung Wei” to
“Mayor Hung Wei”, and (2) changing the panel discussion timeframe from 10‐11am to 9:45‐
11 am.
Motion passes 2‐0, with Commissioner Mohanty abstaining.
Vice Chair Soundararajan arrived after the motion.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
This portion of the meeting is reserved for persons wishing to address the commission on
any matter not on the agenda. Speakers are limited to three (3) minutes a person. In most
cases, state law will prohibit the commission from making any decisions with respect to a
matter not listed on the agenda.

WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
2. Subject: Receive and Discuss Commission Updates letter dated July 20, 2023
The Commission and staff reviewed the letter and decided to not record the meeting based
on the updates. IT Manager Yu agreed to take notes for minutes.

OLD BUSINESS
3. Subject: Receive Subcommittee Report on Cyber Security Education from
Commissioners Soundararajan and Du.
Vice Chair Soundararajan and Commissioner Du had the following updates:
Student submissions have been open since last month, no submissions as of
August 2.
Commission Admin Marilyn Pavlov distributed flyers at various locations in the
City.
Vice Chair Soundararajan attended the Tenn Commission regular meeting and
made a presentation about Student Cyber Fair
After the updates, a Budget and logistics discussion ensued:
General flyer to be updated with new timeline and sent to all commissioners;
staff will update website.
Last day for submission is 8/21, Commission agreed to extend the deadline one
week to 8/28.
Commissioner Du has been tasked to market event using Eventbrite
Event banner, hanging it at Community Hall
STAFF AND COMMISSION REPORTS
4. Subject: Receive update from the Mayors Meeting
Vice‐Chair Soundararajan attended the July Mayors meeting and provided an update
Cybersecurity event, and reported the following:
Issue of dog attacks at parks, residents not adhering to Dogs Off‐Leash Area
(DOLA) rules
Library Commission: No commission meetings, over 150k book checkouts,
544 room bookings, and the need for 16+ year old tutors.
Bike & Ped Commission: Bike Fest at City Hall area on September 30
Public Safety: Public Safety Event, 8/19, looking for speakers. Block leader
program is good but not enough active block leaders. Crime is down in
Cupertino.
5. Review Action Items List
Commissioner Shearin made a motion to cancel the regular meeting of September 6, and
replace with a Special meeting on September 5 to avoid conflict with the Council meeting
on September 6 and cancel the October regular meeting.
Commissioner Du seconded the motion.
Motion passes.

Vice Chair Soundararajan adjourned the meeting at 8:29 pm.
