Dear Cupertino Sustainability Commission, I appreciate the opportunity to write to you and your service to the city. My name is Joey and I am a volunteer for Plant Based Treaty. Plant Based Treaty is a worldwide, grassroots campaign to fight climate change using the food system. Animal agriculture is one of the leading causes of deforestation, land use change, and methane emissions. Additionally, the scientific journal Nature determined that the food system is responsible for one third of greenhouse gas emissions. By transitioning to a plant-based food system we will be able to reverse these trends and begin to rewild the planet. In partnering with Plant Based Treaty with a city endorsement, Cupertino would be able to signal the need for urgent action on climate change. Offering educational resources to the community on how to include more plants in their diet will also make the city more healthy and sustainable. We would love for Cupertino to join a movement of over 42 cities worldwide. Thank you for your consideration and for all you do for the City of Cupertino. Hello, I understand that the city's climate action goals include reaching net-zero emissions by 2040. An important part of the Commission's two-year projects should focus on supporting the city's climate plan by working to reduce emissions. Will the commission consider addressing car dependence and promoting more sustainable transportation options such as biking, walking, and public transit? Dear Cupertino Sustainability Commission, Thank you for your dedication in volunteering your time to make the community of Cupertino more sustainable. My name is Samantha and I am a City Campaigner for Plant Based Treaty. We have been working with Seema Vaid, A Compassionate World, in advocating for a plant-based food system in the community of Cupertino to help protect against climate change and to be more resilient. Plant Based Treaty is a non-profit organization that raises awareness about the environmental devastation of the current food system and helps cities adopt policies and initiatives to be healthy and sustainable. We would like to provide a formal presentation to the commission for you to make a recommendation to Cupertino City Council for a partnership. Plant Based Treaty has received endorsements from 42 cities including Los Angeles and West Hollywood. Many cities are actively working with us to implement policies that will help their cities with lowering carbon emissions, and to educate the public about the importance of a plant- based food system for human and planetary health. We would appreciate the opportunity to help Cupertino achieve their sustainability goals! Thank you, Samantha Lau City Campaigner, US Liaison 626-487-3696 Schedule a Meeting Endorse Plant Based Treaty
