=========================================================~~LJ==-O~'
10300 Torre Avenue, Cupertino, California 95014 (408) 777-3308
To: Mayor and City Councilmembers
Chair and Planning Commission
From: Robert S. Cowan, Director of Community Development RS<:-
Date: March 10, 1998
Subj: Minor Modification of 26-U-86 to allow change of fascia on an existing gasoline
station canopy at 21855 Homestead Road
Chapter 19.132 of the Cupertino Municipal Code allows for administrative approval of
minor changes to a project. The Director reports his decision to the City Council and
Planning Commission in time to allow any Councilmember or Planning Commissioner to
appeal the decision within fourteen calendar days.
Application:
Minor Modification of 26-U-86 to allow change of fascia and columns on an existing
gasoline station canopy at 21855 Homestead Road
Description:
The applicant, Bruce Turner, representing Tosco Marketing Company, is proposing
changes to the fascia and column shrouds for the BP gasoline station canopy at the above
captioned address. The fascia and column shroud changes usually signifies a change in
the gasoline supplier, in this case, probably Union 76. The proposal is to replace the
green, bullnose (rounded) composite aluminum fascia with an eggshell white, flat
composite aluminum fascia panel. There will be a minor narrowing of the fascia panel
and no overall change in the height or size of the canopy. The grey column shrouds will
be replaced by eggshell white-colored shrouds.
New signage will be separately permitted. Staff does not expect a time period when the
canopy will be white and the ground sign will be "BP" green and yellow. Oil companies
are concerned with maintaining a clear corporate identity for their customers, and staff
fully expects the chang over in the canopy and signage to occur at the same time even if
they are permitted at different times.
Action:
The Director of Community Development deems the modification minor and approves
the change in the canopy fascia and column shrouds per the 3 sheet plan set, titled "4-
Column Canopy "76" Image Modification".
This approval of the modification is effective March 10, 1998. The fourteen calendar day
appeal period will expire on March 24, 1998.
