DIR-1998-10b 'Odol lb~~ .f\VG =============== CI~~=~~_~~~:~~~~============ ~~~~~22~ ~ /V 10300 Torre Avenue, Cupertino, California 95014 (408) 777-3308 To: Mayor and City Councilmembers Chair and Planning Commission From: Robert S. Cowan, Director of Community Development ~ Date: October 9, 1998 Subj: Minor Modification of ll-U-96M and 21-ASA-96 (final landscape and site plan) for the Symantec building located South DeAnza Boulevard & Torre Avenue --------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 19.132 of the Cupertino Municipal Code allows for administrative approval of minor changes to a project. The Director reports his decision to the City Council and Planning Commission in time to allow any Councilmember or Planning Commissioner to appeal the decision within fourteen calendar days. Application: Symantec is seeking approval of the following changes to the approved site and landscaping plan. 1. Change of color on entry plaza and rear plaza. The approval color pallet for the plaza is contrasting bands consisting of two shades of beige. The approval colors are depicted on the approval color board which could not be accurately reproduced. A rendered landscaping plan was submitted to describe the contrasting band concept. (The orange and red bands dot not represent the approved, much softer beige shades described on the color board). The applicant installed a light colored gray concrete with a light blue/green band instead of the beige colors. The change in color selection was prompted by a desire to match the slate in the building entrances. (If you desire to personally evaluate the approval colors, please contact me to review the color board). 2. Reolace sand volleyball court with turf. The owner decided to use turf to reduce site maintenance costs of the court itself and the building (sand gets tracked in the building). Action: The Director of Community Development deems the modification minor and approves the above described changes. The sand volleyball court was initially advanced as an employee amenity. From a public perspective, the turf court will look attractive. The light gray/green replacement color is more compatible with the building's wall and window colors. When the front landscape matures and the sign and public art is installed, the concrete in the entry plaza will appear less stark and expansive. The approval of the modification is effective October 12. The fom1een calendar day appeal period will expire on October 25, 1998. G/planning/misc/dinllmsyman
