Call municipal election council seatsOFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK CUPERTINO Agenda Item No. ~ ~ SUBJECT AND ISSUE Meeting Date: June 17, 2009 Adopt a resolution calling a General Municipal Election on Nov. 3, 2009, to fill three City Council seats, Resolution No. 09- BACKGROUND Cupertino elections for City Council take place in November of odd-numbered years. The City contracts with the County of Santa Clara Registrar of Voter's Office to provide election-related services such as ballot printing, precinct set-up, and vote counting. July 1 is the deadline for submitting the City's resolution to request those; services. If the City Council wishes to put any measures +~n the November ballot, the deadline would be August 7. A general municipal election is called for November 3, 2009, to fill the three city council seats now occupied by council members Orrin Mahoney, Dolly Sandoval, and Mark Santoro. 2. The City of Cupertino requests that the Registrar of Voters of Santa Clara County conduct the elections and canvass the returns. The Registrar shall be reimbursed for all costs incurred by said services; 3. The City of Cupertino requests that said election be consolidated with other November elections, and agrees that this governing body consents to such consolidation; 4. The city clerk is hereby authorized and directed to certify to the adoption of this resolution, and to transmit a certified copy to the Registrar of Voters and to the Board of Supervisors of Santa Clara County. 5. The city clerk is authorized and directed to publish a notice of election within the time and in the manner specified in California Elections Code 12111.
