SUBJECT AND ISSUE
Review bids and award the contract for Pavement Restoration, Project No. 2009-03, to G.
Bortolotto & Co., Inc., in the amount of $198,876.00, and approve a construction contingency of
$20,000.00 to cover any unforeseen work required to complete the project, for a total of
$218,876.00.
BACKGROUND
The Pavement Restoration project has been budgeted in the Five Year Capital Improvements
Program for Pavement Management. This ar.~nua1 project is programmed to make more
significant repairs of specific areas of pavement f ailure. Typically, the work involves cutting out
and removing areas of failed pavement, recompa+~ting the underlying material and reconstructing
the removed areas with new asphalt pavement. -
On June 23, 2009, the City received bids for Pavement Restoration, Project No. 2009-03. Due to
the large number of pavement projects bidding regionally, the City received only one bid, from
G. Bortolloto & Co., Inc, in the amount of $ 198,876.00. This bid is reasonable as it is under the
engineer's estimate of $ 200,040.00. Staff recommends award of the contract to G. Bortolloto &
Co., Inc.
The City will have additional pavement management projects out to bid, which staff will request
Council to award at subsequent meetings.
