Approve the Parks and Recreation Commission recommendations for FY 2009 - 2010 Work Plan.
BACKGROUND
The Parks and Recreation Commission accomplished the following in FY 2008 - 2009:
City Council referrals
• Reviewed and presented recommendations to the Council on future use of the Blue
Pheasant, the Siintns property, and the Stocklmeir property
• Conducted extensive research on off-leash dog facilities
• Conducted four public meetings on off- leash facilities including two facilitated discussions;
close to 400 people participated in these discussions
• Presented a recommendation on off- lea;~h areas to the City Council in Apri12009
• Reviewed special events supported by Cupertino and recommended no changes to the
current levels of support.
Other
• Adopted "Green" policies for city parks
• Adopted use policies for Blackberry Farm Park and the Stevens Creek Corridor Trail
• Participated in the Captain Stephens Playground project along with the Cupertino Rotary,
De Anza students, and KaBoom
• Created the Helping Hands program, enabling people interested in Cupertino parks to
volunteer to help keep the parks clean and attractive; McClellan Ranch, Stevens Creek Trail
and Blackberry Farm Park are the initial parks to start the program

DISCUSSION
At the August 6, 2009 meeting, the Parks and Recreation Commission approved the following
items for their Work Plan for FY 2009 - 2010:
• Review future plan for Stevens Creek Corridor Trail - Phase II and Stocklmeir
property, regarding trail and creek restoration
• Discuss off-leash areas and working with Santa Clara County Parks on joint effort
for a fenced dog park at Stevens Creek County Park
• Monthly Parks and Recreation Department program updates by Staff
• Review Blackberry Farm Park policies
• Review Sports Center pool conversion to multi-use sport court
• Discuss future use of Tank House
• Review Stevens Creek Corridor Park Trail policies
• Review Green policies in City parks
• Review user/public involvement in Parks and Recreation activities
• Joint meeting with Friends of Stevens Creek Trail
• Discuss Lawrence/Mitry Park
• Review Villa Serra Park construction
Additionally, there will be items discussed that are not agendized, but will be added by the
Commission as needed. These items include:
• strengthening past partnerships and seeking new partnerships with schools, clubs
and non-profit organizations (David Greenstein}
• commission meeting process review (Debbie Stauffer}
• user/public involvement in City parks and Parks and Recreation activities and
website links to programs to encourage user/public by using social media tools

• varying sites for Commission meetings (Staff}
