15. Mayor's discretionary fund for KoreaOFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER CUPERTINO Summary AGENDA ITEM 1~ AGENDA DATE October 6, 2009 SUBJECT AND ISSUE Approval of expenditure from the Mayor's Di;;cretionary Fund for travel to Korea by Vice Mayor Wang for the Asian Pacific Cities Summit in the amount of $ 1,201.b8. BACKGROUND The International Asian Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) was held on September 15-17, 2009 in Seoul, Korea. Mayor Mahoney was invited along with other US Mayors to attend. As Mayor Mahoney was unable to attend this event he offered the invitation to Vice- Mayor Wang who agreed to attend on the Ma3~or and City's behalf. Resolution 07-103 establishing the Mayor's discretionary fund provides for expenditures for projects the Mayor deems appropriate during the Mayor's term of office. Mayor Mahoney and the City Manager determined that the travel funds for Vice Mayor Wang's flight to attend the event in Korea were an appropriate use of those funds. The administrative procedures of the City as approved by Resolution 07-213 require prior approval by the Council of atl international travel. However, the invitation conformation for Vice Mayor Wang from the APCS Secretariat in Korea and the scheduling of the flight to Korea did not allow suffcient time to place the matter on the September 1, 2009 Council agenda for prior approval. As such, the approval of these expenses are being recommended to be ratified by this item on the: October 6, 2009 Agenda. 1 15-1 FISCAL IMPACT Sufficient funds are available in the Mayor's discretionary fund Acct. No. 114-1000-6326 to support the expenditure of $ 1,201.68 for travel expenses by Vice Mayor Wang to Korea.
