CALL TO ORDER
At 7:00 p.m. Chairperson Janet Mohr called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairperson Janet Mohr, Commissioners Nancy Canter, Robert Harrison and Hema
Kundargi. Staff present: City Clerk Kimberly Smith.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Minutes of the regular meeting of September 27,2005.
Commissioner Hema Kundargi moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of
September 27,2005. Commissioner Robert Harrison seconded and motion passed
unanimously.
PRESENTATIONS - None
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Natasha Derahan from the Teen Commission indicated that they were working on an arts show as
a fund raiser for the high school. The Fine Arts Commission supported the idea and offered
suggestions for the best viewing.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
2. Historical information regarding Distinguished Artist Award.
City Clerk reported on some of the history of the plaque and what has been used before.
3. Seattle Times article about public art.
City Clerk reviewed the article with the commission and indicated that many projects that
are coming through are now being required to have public art.
COMMISSIONER REPORTS
4. Arts-related news updates from Commissioners
Chairperson Janet Mohr reported on the October Mayor's meeting. City Clerk indicated
that the new mayor would be sworn in on December 6

NEW BUSINESS
5. Brainstorming session - a vision for the arts in Cupertino, both short and long-term.
Commissioner Hema Kundargi reported on her visits to Memorial Park to determine where
sculptures might go. She indicated that she felt five or six would be needed due to the size
of the park. She noted that there were two places in the back of the Quinlan Center by the
fountain, which should be "kid mendly".
The commission also discussed setting guidelines for what the needs are and plan for a
donor as well as various locations where art could go.
Commissioner Robert Harrison stated that he wasn't certain that the Cyrus donation would
occur. He indicated that according to Fariba Nejat, there has been great difficulty working
with an artist from another country and then getting the sculpture to the United States. He
also reported that Rotary is very much in favor of the possibility of linking the
Distinguished Artist with annual festivals.
6. Farewell to Commissioner Hema Kundargi.
The Commission bid farewell to Hema.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
