Massage Examination Test
As a massage applicant, you are required to pass a practical examination to
demonstrate a basic level of massage knowledge and technique. The
examination is verbal and is comprised of 20 questions in anatomy, physiology,
technique, health and safety. All applicants should have a basic knowledge in the
following areas:
Anatomy: Be able to identify (by name) and locate all muscles, bones and major
tendons on the body. Example: biceps, femur, etc.
Physiology: Be familiar with circulatory system (heart, arteries, and veins). A
basic knowledge of the lymph system and areas of lymph nodes as well as the
skin and its components.
Technique. A basic knowledge of Swedish massage strokes and be able to
demonstrate on a live model.
Health and Safety: Basic knowledge of health and safety for massage
practitioners. Example: In which conditions should massage never be applied?
The examination is given by Dr. Roth, in English. Any applicant that needs an
interpreter may do so with an additional translation fee and prior notification to
this office. Some languages do not have a specific translation for muscles such
as the Trapezius. The applicant must be familiar with the common English, Latin
or Medical name for all muscles, as well as their location.

Translation Services for Massage Evaluation
Translation services can be provided for applicants during the testing process.
The applicant will need to inform this office that a translator is requested, prior to
scheduling the massage test. Additional translation fees will have to be paid over
and above the normal testing fee. Please contact this office for further
information_
Please note: ManV Greek or Latin terms forspecific anatomical landmarks
or muscles are not translatable into certain Ian ua es such as Vietnamese
Cambodian or Chinese. (Example; Quadratus lumborum muscle is not
translatable.) Therefore, the applicant will be expected to know the Latin or
Greek term when there is no translatable equivalent.
