TICC 04-06-2011 Technology, Information & Communications Commission Regular Meeting April 6, 2011 MINUTES CALL TO ORDER Wallace Iimura called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. The meeting was delayed while Wallace Iimura was at the Library Commission meeting to request a short joint meeting during the next regularly scheduled meeting on May 4, 2011. Wallace made the request during the Library Commission Oral Communications period. ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Wallace Iimura, Rod Livingood, Jitendra Jadhav Commissioners absent: Peter Friedland Staff present: none Visitors: Charles Bedord — Better Part member APPROVAL of March 2, 2011 MINUTES 1. Commissioner Rod Livingood moved to approve the minutes as written. Commissioner Jitendra Jadhav seconded. Motion approved 3 -0. COMMUNICATIONS 2. Oral: Charles Bedord introduced himself and said he is replacing Bill Mannion as the contact person between the TICC and the Better Part. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS The Commission reviewed the following written communications. 3. February 8, 2011 Letter from Comcast regarding programming services — KFTY. 4. February 22, 2011 Letter from Comcast regarding programming services — CBS Sports Network. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5. Discuss Subcommittee reports — Provide potential work plan for coming year. Legacy Technology Efficiency -- Commissioners Friedland and Iimura met with City Manager Dave Knapp, Public & Environmental Director Rick Kitson, and Public Works Director Timm Borden on March 23, 2011. Most of the discussion centered on doing a telephone audit and the strategies best used to find unused lines and services. Wireless -- No report given. An email from Colin Jung about the Memorial Park cellular tower sculpture was shared with all commissioners present Environmental /Green/Sustainability -- The City should publicize the savings that the street light and irrigations projects have returned when actual savings are available. Telecommunications -- A Vonage bill was reviewed. The review showed that the city UUT was being collected. There was a short discussion about whether Comcast could provide faster Internet connectivity at a lower cost than AT &T. NEW BUSINESS None REPORTS 6. City of Cupertino — No report 7. Mayor's Meetings with Commissioners - Commissioner Iimura represented TICC at the Mayor's March 8, 2011 meeting. Other commissions represented were: Bicycle Pedestrian, Parks & Rec, Planning, Public Safety, Teen, and Library. Most of the discussion was between Bike, Teen, and Public Safety because of the upcoming WOW (Walk One Week to school). MISCELLANEOUS 8. Activities Calendar — No changes made. 9. Action Item List Review -- Commissioner Iimura to talk to Erin Cooke about her report at the May meeting. Ask Rick Kitson to get what companies are actually paying the City of Cupertino the UUT they are collecting. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Livingood moved to adjourn the meeting to May 4 at 7:00 p.m. for a joint meeting with the Library Commission in the EOC room in City Hall.
