Honorable Councilmembers:
Greetings from Wisconsin. Sorry I can't make it to the Council meeting Tuesday evening.
Please approve the environmental clearance documents prepared for Phase II of the Stevens Creek Corridor Park and
Restoration Plans, so work on this important project can continue, improving the health of the creek while extending our
Stevens Creek Trail to Stevens Creek Blvd.
And please approve the funds needed for City Staff to work with the Friends of Don Burnett to share with the world the
renaming of our beautiful Mary Avenue Bicycle Footbridge to honor former Mayor and Councilmember and bicycle and
pedestrian advocate Don Burnett.

Dear Mayor Wong and Members of the Cupertino City Council,
For the past nine months we have been working with Senator Simitian's office in an effort to rename the Mary
Avenue Bridge in memory of Don Burnett. In July the State Legislature passed a resolution and the bridge is
now officially known as the "Don Burnett Bicycle-Pedestrian Bridge".
The staff of the Cupertino Public Works Department has been very helpful in providing guidance about signage
and the dedication ceremony. Their report and the State Resolution are included in your packet for the
September 20 meeting as item #11.
The Friends of Don Burnett has been successful in raising about half of the expected cost of signage from
individuals and community organizations. However, the donations are insufficient for new signs which are both
tasteful and in keeping with the current signage.
We are asking you to support us with matching funds by approving this agenda item.
We would be very pleased if you would join us at the dedication ceremony on Saturday, October 20 starting at
10 am.
Sincerely, Dick Blaine
for Friends of Don Burnett.
