To whom it may concern,
IFIL
At the request of Mr. C.H. Shek, I performed a structural observation on this single -story wood
framed house at 18791 Arata Way, Cupertino. Based on my observation, I certify that the as -built
structural framing and shear walls are in general conformance with the approved plans.
The existing exterior walls were covered first by one layer of exterior graded plywood panel
approximately 1 /z" thick; and then in year 2005, another layer of (3) coats, 7/8" thick Portland
Cement Plaster (Stucco) was applied over the plywood panel.
Existing plywood siding was fastened to the studs with 10d nails spaced at 6" on center at edges
and at 12" on center at field, in according to industry standard practice. This would satisfy the
requirement specified on the approved plan sheet #2.
In addition, the stucco finish also adds shear strength to exterior walls. The facts that by cement
plaster wall covering (Stucco) alone would have satisfied "Brace Wall" requirement because
there are more than 12 feet of net wall length on all sides, subtracting the openings. (Reference:
CBC sections 2308.12.4 and Table 2308.12.4.)
