File-_� Cupertino Sanitary District —�- 20065 Stevens Creek Boulevard, Building C Cupertino, CA 95014 RE: Extension of existing sanitary sewage piping to accommodate effluent from two additional lyophilizers. Gentlemen: Syva Company, 20400 Mariani Avenue, Cupertino, is installing two additional lyophilizers (freeze dryers) which require de-icing and cleaning every 4 to 5 days. The effluent from this process has the potential to contain trace amounts of human and sheep serum and human urine drawn off the products being freeze dried within the units. Because of the potential nature of the effluent we wish to plumb these units directly to the sanitary sewer as we have done with our other lyophilizers. Currently we have six smaller lyophilizers on line. The effluent from these is similar and is permitted under our industrial waste water permit, CU-0038. The additional freeze dryers would result in a net discharge increase of <250 gallons/week and would not alter the conditions of our industrial waste water permit or significantly change the composition of industrial waste water or the average daily outflow from our Cupertino facility.
