Agenda Item No. ~
MEETING DATE: June 19,2007
SUBJECT
Authorize the City Manager to enter into an agreement with the San Jose Conservation Corp for
community improvement services on an as-needed basis for the Stevens Creek Corridor Project, up
to a limit of $500,000 of City money.
BACKGROUND
The San Jose Conservation Corp (SJCC) is eligible for $ 1. 2M in funding from Proposition 84,
providing partner agencies contribute an equal match and employ Corp members in meaningful
community improvement projects. The SJCC has been following the City's progress on Stevens
Creek Corridor Park with interest and has offered to earmark $500,000 of the $1.2M total for use on
the project. Staff has brought this to Council's attention relative to the McClellan Ranch Facilities
Improvement Project, which is the "pre-phase" of the first phase of the Stevens Creek Corridor
Project. The attached spreadsheet is a reprint of that presented at the June 4, 2007 Council budget
study session.
The master agreement for hiring SJCC has been reviewed by the City Attorney. It allows for
individual work orders to be prepared for a variety of projects suitable for Corp construction, for a
period of two years, with a two-year renewal option. It also provides for the City's receipt of up to
$500,000 in matching funds from Proposition 84.
DISCUSSION
If the Council authorizes the agreement, SJCC will undertake the reconfiguration of the 4-H facility
as it's first project commencing August 2007.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Authorize the City Manager to enter into an agreement with the San Jose Conservation Corp for
community improvement services on an as-needed basis for the Stevens Creek Corridor Project, up
to a limit of $500,000 of City money.
