Mr. Hirshfield:
On the 13th of December 2001, I made an on-site inspection
of your single family residential building site located at
734 Stendhal Lane, Cupertino, California . The purpose of my
inspection was to evaluate the existing roof surface and to
determine whether or not the existing roof sheathing shows
signs of dry rot .
• EXISTING BUILDING SITE
Your residence located at 734 Stendhal Lane, Cupertino,
California, is a single family "Eichler" style residence .
The subject residence is approximately 40 years old. A flat
roof provides the roof cover, while wood sheathing, �ro is ee

the wall cover.

SITE OBSERVATIONS By
During my inspection of your residence, I noted the
following:
1 . The existing membrane roof "hot mop roof" has separated
• from the wood decking in several areas .

2 . There are several areas on the existing roof where the
gravel has been displaced and the asphalt underlay is
exposed.
3. A review of the under portion of the ceiling revealed
no evidence of any current or past leaks .
Before the new roof is applied on top of the existing roof
sheathing, the two areas where the existing membrane roof
has bubbled and detached from the original roof sheathing
• should be checked. If dry rot exists in these areas,
replace the wood sheathing.
