Prior to permit issuance, you must agree to comply with 1997 UBC Standards and manufacturers specifications on re -roofing. 2. New roof coverings shall not be applied without first obtaining all inspection and written approval from the building inspector. A final inspection and approval shall be obtained from the building inspector when the re -roofing is completed. 3. All roofs shall be inspected prior to any roofing installation. 4. To receive a final sign off from the City, the following steps are required: 1) Pre -inspection and/or tear off approval. 2) In -progress inspection approval. 3) Final inspection approval. a) Spark arrester installation. 5. If plywood is installed, a plywood nail inspection is required. • 6. Any roofing which is applied without first obtaining an inspection, will require the removal of all new material down to the sheathing, so a proper City inspection can be performed. 7. NOTE: If you call for a plywood nail inspection and the job is not ready, you will be charged a re -inspection fee of $176.18. The re -inspection fee must be paid before another inspection can be scheduled. IMPORTANT: 1. Flat roofs must have a minimum of 1/4 " per foot slope and demonstrate that there is no ponding. 2. An I.C.B.O. report is required to be on the job site at the time on inspection. I understand and will comply with the above stated policy on re -roofing. We were specifically asked to review the portion of the roof where an overlay for the existing roof covering is proposed. The subject area of roof is a slightly raised area of flat roof directly behind the stores' North -facing signagefpampet. The area measures approximately 35' x 130'. Per the requirements of Appendix Chapter 15 - Ro-roofmg of the 1997 Uniform Budding Code, we report the following: I. The additional roof covering materials (a 45 -mil single -ply membrane system * a W' chick Dm -Deck recovery board) add a structurally negligible amount of dead load. The existing panelized wood roof flaming system is easily sufficient: for this additional dead load. 2. The roof deck appears structurally sound. Even in areas typically suspect to decay (near drains, areas of ponding, at penetrations) no soft spots or areas of excessive deck deflection were detected during our visual roof walk. 3. Despite the heavy mmmight rains, no areas of standing water were present at the raised portion at the front of the toot. The raised roof area is served by 2 area drains. Behind the signage/pampel, crickets direct roof water towards each drain. Each drain has an adjacent overflow pipe. The new roof overlay will only serve to improve drainage • further. 4. The existing roof covering is a mineral cap sheet No destructive testing was performed, however no signs of poor attachment were noted (blistering, blowoff). The mechanical attachment of the roof overlay will positively attach both the new and existing membranes to the deck. 5. The roof area is reportedly uninsulated. The suspended T -bar ceiling system, viewable from within the store, had only a few discolored ceiling ales. 6. Existing ftrc-retardant requirements are maintained and arc probably improved by the addition of the '/" Dens. Dock. Please call if you have any questions.
