31. TICC resignation & number reduction City Hall 10300 Torre Avenue Cupertino, CA 95014-3255 Telephone: (408) 777-3223 FAX: (408) 777-3366 kimberlys@cupertino.org CUPERTINO OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK SUMMARY Agenda Item No. ~ Meeting Date: August 21, 2007 SUBJECT AND ISSUE Accept the resignation of Luke Lam from the Technology, Information and Communications Commission (TIC C) and decide whether to fill the vacancy or change the number of members. BACKGROUND In February of this year, the City Council increased the membership of the TrCC from five members to seven. In July, Charles Ahern resigned, and Council directed staff to leave the position vacant until January 2008, when interviews will take place for all scheduled commission vacancies. Mr. Luke Lam's resignation creates a second vacancy, so the City Council may wish to consider returning the commission membership to five members, in which case there would be no vacancies on the TICC. The commission's staff liaison, Rick Kitson, indicates that the TrCC members have no objection to returning to five members. Except for the Teen Commission, all other city commissions have five members. RECOMMENDATION: 1. Accept the resignation of Mr. Luke Lam 2A. Direct staff to prepare an ordinance to return the Technology, Information, and Communications Commission membership to five members; or 28. Direct staff to fill the vacancy in January, 2008. Unfortunately for me, that business growth demands so much of my attention, In addition we also welcome a new baby to our family. These demands put me in a position where I don't think I can fulfill my obligations to TICC. As a result, I have decided to resign my position as a commissioner on the TICC, effective immediately. As Charlie says, "my impression is that there are better qualified and motivated candidates available to TICC, who should be able to fill my position. I expect that one of them will be a more productive member of TICC than I have been." Couldn't said it better myself. Thanks.
