Regular Adjourned Meeting
April 29,1997
CALL TO ORDER
At 8:30 a.m. Mayor Bautista called the meeting to order in the Cupertino Room of the Qninlan
Community Center, 10185 Stelling Avenue, Cupertino, California.
ROLL CALL
City Council members present: Mayor John Bautista, Vice-Mayor Lauralee Sorensen,
Councilmembers Don Bumett, Michael Chang (10:30 a.m.), and Wally Dean. Council members
absent: None.
Staff present: City Manager Don Brown; City Clerk Kimberly Smith; AdminisWative Services
Director Carol Atwood; Community Development Director Bob Cowan; Parks and Recreation
Director Steve Dowling; and Public Works Director Bert Viskovich.
- Also present were members of the Economic Development Advisory Committee, which include
members from staff: Carol Atwood, John Bantista, Donald Brown, Bob Cowan, Steve Dowling,
Tom Hall, Donna Lawler, John Statton, George Steele, Lauralee Sorensen, and Bert Viskovich.

NEW BUSINESS
1. Economic Summit
City Manager Don Brown reviewed the suggestions and accomplishments from the
economic summits held in 1995 and 1996. The council members and audience
participated in group discussions regarding these questions:
1. What are the city's three most positive points? What are the three areas that most
need irapwvement?
2. What would you like to see done with Vallco Fashion Park?
_ 3. What improvements or changes are needed in the General Plan? Should it be
reviewed and modified each year?
4. How do we attract high-tech sales offices? How do we capture sales tax on
electronic sales?
5. What is our vision for Cupertino retail centers?
6. How can we continue to streamline city processes? Which areas need most
attention?
ADJOURNMENT
At 11:30 a.m. the meeting was adjourned to Monday, May 5, 1997, for interviews of candidates
for Historical Research ad hoc committee.
