Regular Adjourned Meeting
Janna~y 25, 1997
ROLL CALL
At 8:50 a.m. Mayor Bautista called the meeting to order at the Blackberry Farm
Conference and Retreat Center, 21975 San Femando Avenue, Cupertino.
Council members present: Mayor John Bautista, Vice-Mayor Lauralee Sorensen, and
Council members Don Bumett, Michael Chang, and Wally Dean.
Staff present: City Manager Don Brown.
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
None.
WORK SESSION
Work session with representatives from the Public Dialogue Consortium. The following
goals were developed with respect to enhanced cultural richness in the community:
1. Community leaders training session Feb. 28 and Mar. 1.
2. Build on the positive results of the 4th of July celebration.
3. Build on the success of last year's city wide garage sale.
a) Block party "kits"
b) Neighborhood Week
4. "Welcome Wagon": Work with Chamber of Commerce to develop a new arrival
package that would give people inforccuation on the community and government.
5. Continue Emergency Response Training in neighborhoods as a way to bring
neighbors together.
6. Build on Art and Wine Festival and the "Taste of Cupertino" to expand cultural
participation. Consider adding a music component.

7. Expand leadership training from #I above to include other adults and students.
8. Develop neighborhood "Safety Fairs" that would provide infomiation on Sheriff,
Fire District, Emergency Preparedness, etc.
9. Increase information to the community on public safety so that there is better
understanding of the community's safety.
ADJOURNMENT
At 2:15 p.m. the meeting was adjourned to 5:30 p.m., January 27, for a joint work session
with the Planning Commission regarding the General Plan.
