SUMMARY
Agenda Item No: ~~
SUBJECT AND ISSUE
Meeting Date: March 4, 2008
Adopt a resolution increasing part-time hourly rates for Parks and Recreation summer staff.
BACKGROUND
The salary schedule for part-time summer help for our Parks and Recreation programs has not
been updated since February 5, 2001. Since our recruitment efforts are about to begin, both
Personnel and Park and Recreation staff met and reviewed the salary schedule for summer hires
in regards to the following:
- Current position categories,
- Delineations for qualifications relating to experience and certification requirements,
- Widening of existing steps to five for consistency with full-time positions, and
- Comparison to other surrounding cities to ensure competitive pay rates. The proposed
rates put us within the ranges quoted by the six competitor cities in the area.
The salary rates proposed reflect the needed cost of living adjustment in addition to addressing
the above criteria. As a result of these discussions, staff is proposing the following hourly rate
structure:
Classification Current Hourl Ste s Five Hourl Ste s
Recreation Leader 8.50; 9.00; 9.50 9.00; 9.50; 10.00; 10.50; 11.00

Pool Mana er 13.50; 14.00; 14.50 15.00; 15.50; 16.00; 16.50; 17.00
FISCAL IMPACT
It is anticipated that the new salary schedule will result in increased camp program costs of
$11,500 and aquatics program costs of $7,200 this season. Because these programs are self-
sufficient, this cost will be incorporated into our 2008 summer program fees and paid for by the
participants. Therefore, these is no fiscal impact for these salary rate adjustments.
