VETERINARY OFFICES, CLINICS AND HOSPITALS
Ordin. AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO, AMENDING ORDINANCE
002(b-1) NO. 002 (b) , BY REGULATING LOCATION OF VETERINARY OFFICES,
CLINICS AND HOSPITALS.

5 AMENDMENT
5 . 1 Ordinance No. 002(b)* of the City of Cupertino, California,
is hereby amended by adding Sections 5 to 15, inclusive,
as stated in this extension (b-1) of the Ordinance .
6 PURPOSE
6. 1 In order to provide health, safety and welfare in the City
of Cupertino, and to preserve property values , Veterinary
Offices, Clinics and Hospitals should be located where
they are compatible with nearby activities and enterprises ,
and where they would not be detrimental to the neighbor-
hood . It is necessary to define Office, Clinic and Hos-
pital, for the purpose of this Ordinance .
7 DEFINITIONS
7. 1 Veterinary Office is defined as a facility, which a Veter-
inarian, in conducting his business through house calls,
is using for clerical and similar work, and where he may
consult with other persons , but where he receives and
examines no animal patients . .
7.2 Veterinary Clinic, Veterinary Hospital, Animal Clinic and
Animal Hospital are defined as facilities where animals
may be received, examined, treated and retained overnight.
7. 3 Poodle Parlor: See Beauty Salons for pets, Sec . 10 of
this Ordinance 002(b-1) .

of Cupertino.
NOTE: Ordinance 002(b-1) , Sec . 5. 1, as enacted by the City Coun-
cil, makes a reference to Ordinance 220(b) . This is a
clerical error; the reference should be Ordinance 002(b) ,
as corrected in this compilation.

8 ZONES WHERE VETERINARY OFFICES MAY BE LOCATED
8 . 1 Veterinary Offices , as defined by Section 7 . 1 of this
Ordinance 002 (b-1) , ' are permitted in the following Zones :
a C = all Commercial Zones .
b M = all Industrial Zones .
c 0 = all Office Zones (previously PO-H) .
d ) P = Planned Development Zones (previously PC-H) ;
within areas designated for non-residential use .
8 . 2 Veterinary Offices are permitted as ' Home Occupations in the
following Zones ; provided that they in all respects con-
form with the Home Occupation Ordinance (No . 321) of the
City of Cupertino :
a? A = all Agricultural Zones .
b) P = Planned Development Zones ; .within areas designated
fcr residential use .
c ) R = all Residential Zohes .
`3 . 3 Veterinary. Offices are permitted in the following Zones ,
provided they are an essential part .of a public or quasi-
public institution, such as a School of Veterinary
Medicine or a quarantine :
a B = all Public and Quasi-Public Zones .
b T =Transportation Zones .
9 ZONES WHERE VETERINARY CLINICS AND HOSPITALS MAY BE LOCATED
9. 1 Veterinary Clinics and Hospitals , as defined by Section 7. 2
of this Ordinance 002 (b-1) , are permitted in the following
Zones :

a ML = Light Industrial Zones (previously M-1-H) .
b MP = Planned Industrial Park (previously M1-PH) ; subject
to the securing of a Use Permit in each separate
case .
c ) P = Planned Development Zone (previously PC-H) ; within
an area designated for ML use .
d) P = Planned Development Zone ; within an area designated
for MP use , subject to the securing of a Use Permit
in each separate case .

9.2 Veterinary Clinics and Hospitals are permitted in the
following Zones, provided they are an essential part of
a public or quasi-public institution, such as a School
of Veterinary Medicine or a quarantine :
a) B = all Public and Quasi-Public Zones .
b) T = Transportation Zones .
9. 3 Veterinary Clinics and Hospitals are not permitted in any
Zone not listed in the above subsections 9. 1 and 9.2 of
this Ordinance 002(b-1) .
10 BEAUTY SALONS FOR PETS
10. 1 Facilities for bathing, clipping, trimming and similar
services for pets, commonly called "Poodle Parlors, "
shall be subject to the same 'regulations as a Veterinary
Clinic or Hospital; except that they also may be permitted
in a CG (General Commercial) Zone, subject to the securing
of a Use Permit in each separate case.
11 USE PERMITS
11. 1 A Use Permit for a Veterinary Clinic or Hospital in an MP
Zone, or for a Poodle Parlor in a CG or MP Zone, may be
granted by the Planning Commission, according to procedures
set forth in Ordinance No. 002(a) .
11.2 A Use Permit for a Veterinary Clinic or Hospital, or for a
Poodle Parlor, in an area designated for MP use within a
P Zone, may be granted by the City Council, after recom-
mendations by the Planning Commission, according to proce-
dures set forth in Ordinances No. 002(a) , 002(o) and 002(o-1) .
11.3 When deciding upon the application for such Use Permits, the
Planning Commission shall consider the compatibility of the
use with present or permitted other uses in the neighborhood.
Elimination of noise and other factors which may disturb
the neighbors shall be ensured by Conditions attached to
the Use Permit.

12 TRANSITION CLAUSE
12. 1 This Amendment 002(b-1) shall not impose additional
restrictions upon. Veterinary Offices, Clinics or Hospitals
for which a Business License has been granted before the date
this Ordinance was enacted by the City Council.
13 SEVERABILITY CLAUSE
13 . 1 If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of
this Ordinance is for any reason held to be unconstitutional,
such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining
portions of this Ordinance. The legislative body hereby
declares that it would have passed this Ordinance and each
section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase hereof, ir-
respective of the fact that any one or more sections, sub-
sections, sentences, clauses or phrases be declared
unconstitutional.
14 PUBLISHING CLAUSE
14. 1 That the City Clerk be and he is hereby authorized and
directed to cause copies of this Ordinance to be published
at ].east once within fifteen (15) days after its adoption,
in the Cupertino Courier, the official newspaper of the City
of Cupertino.
15 INTRODUCED AND ENACTED
15. 1 INTRODUCED at a regular meeting of the City Council of
Cupertino on the 7th day of February, 1966, and ENACTED
at a regular meeting of the City Council of Cupertino this
21st day of February, 1966, by the following vote :
