ORDINANCE N0. 1150
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CIIPERTINO CHANGING THE DAY
OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION FROM APRIL, 1982 TO
THAT OF THE STATEWIDE JUNE PRIMARY, REQUESTING AP-
PROVAL FROM THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, AND DECLARING.
THE URGENCY THEREOF
WHEREAS, Section 36503.5 of the Government Code allows City Councils
to enact an ordinance requiring its general municipal election to be held
at certain times ether than the. second Tuesday in April in even-numbered
years; and
[JtIEREAS, a public hearing was conducted regarding a change of election
date and it was determined that such a change could result in a cast savings
and increased voter turnout through consolidation;
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO 1~ES HEREBY ORDAIN:
1. That general municipal elections will be held the same day as the
statewide direct primary election.
2. The City Clerk ie directed to forward a certified copy of this
ordinance to the. County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors for their
approval.
3. That upon the Board of Supervisors' approval the Clerk shall notify
each registered voter in the City of Cupertino of the change of election
date.
4. That in order to meet time deadlines to provide for the orderly
conduct of a municipal election in consolidation with a scheduled election
for the welface of the citizens of Cupertino, it is necessary that this
ordinance be declared an urgency ordinance and take effect immediately.
