Head Building Inspector City of Cupertino Dear Joe, We are currently in the middle of an addition and remodeling - project on our home at the address above. The approved plans included relocation of the existing furnace from the middle of the house into the garage. When we got to this point in the project I made the decision to replace theold furnace. It was the original that came with the house 31 years ago, and although it still worked I believe it 's . days were numbered.' In consideration of a large second story addition we are planning to do in the future, I had a furnace large enough to accomida'te the' future expansion installed. This seemed to be the appropriate thing to do because I did not want to have to replace an almost new furnace when we do the second story adddition. However , it seems I have been tripped up by my own foresight due to the title 24 limitation on the size of the furnace. The maximum size allowed per the calculations is 52K BTU. The size installed :is SOK BTU. As the new furnace is already installed and inlight of the rational for it being oversize to meet the existing demand , but appropriate for our future needs, we 'are asking to have this requirement waived.
