3. OWNERSHIP OF THIS REPORT:
a. Ownership ofthis report, sketches, and other intellectual information pertaining
to the project shown herein shall remain sole property of MG.
4. SINGLE PROJECT:
a. These sketches notes, and specifications are only valid for the project indicated
herein. There documents are not valid, are not applicable to, and shall not be used
for any other project at any other location.
S. INSPECTIONS:
a. MG recommends that the Contractor, Builder, or Owner retains MG or other
qualified structural specialists to provide on-site inspection services of the items
analyzed/designed herein. It is the responsibility of the Contractor, Builder, or
Owner to arrange such inspections.
6. BASIS OF DESIGN — APPLICABLE CODES:
a This design is a.voluntary upgrade and repair initiated by the Owner and is
intended to strengthen certain portions of the subject residence. These upgrades
and repairs may or may not bring the affected part(s) into compliance with the
current code; however, all affected portions will be stronger than exists currently,
and at least'as strong as original construction.

b. All construction shall adhere to the minimum requirements of 2009 IBC with CA
amendments: Contractor shall be responsible to comply with all OSHA and State
Labor and Industrial Standards. Contractor assumes full responsibility as to
construction methods used, safety provisions employed, and the finished as -built
condition of the structure and related systems.
7. COMPETENT CONSTRUCTION PERSONNEL:
a. Only competent personnel familiar with construction and safety practices
germane to the project shown herein should be employed to assemble and
construct the work.
8. CONFLICTS OR ERRORS IN PLANS:
a. Contractor shall verify all the dimensions and "fit" conditions in the field. Should
the Contractor or Fabricator note any conflicts or errors in the Plans and/or
Specifications, they shall be brought to the immediate attention of the Engineer.
If any questions arise during construction pertaining to any structural matter, the
Engineer shall be consulted immediately.
9. CONDITIONAL WOOD FRAMING
a. Material: All sawn framing lumber shall be Douglas Fir — Larch, Number 2 or
better, unless otherwise shown. All sawn wood shall have a moisture content of
less than 25%.
b. General Construction: Predrill all nail holes where required to avoid splitting.
Connect all wood members per the Plans and applicable building codes.
c. SimMgwSDS Wood Screws: Where specified, install per manufacturer's
recommendations. In general these do not need pilot holes; however, if wood is
old and/or very dry, pilot holes may be required to avoid splitting. Use length as
specified in,Plans, but never less than required to ensure full strength.
10. PRE -FABRICATED FRAMING CONNECTORS:
a. Manufacturer: Simpson brand is specified; however, any other nationally
recognized brand (Silver, KC, etc.) may be used provided that they are equivalent
in their ability to carry all applied loads in all orientations.
b. Installation: The Contractor shall install all prefabricated items in strict
accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and requirements. The
load carrying capacity of the prefabricated items cannot be guaranteed if this
provision is not adhered to. Nails and screws which will be exposed to weather
shall be galvanized or stainless steel. If installation risks cracking of wood,
contact Engineer for alternate nailing and/or alternate connector.
c. Corrosion Resistance: Use the following depending on the level of corrosion
resistance required:
i. Low Corrosion Resistance: Use standard G90 zinc coating with 0.90 oz.
of zinc per square foot of surface (total both sides). Typically used for
interior and exterior dry conditions.
ii. Medium Corrosion Resistance: Use Z -Max galvanized products with
1.85 oz. of zinc per square foot of surface (total both sides). Hot -dipped
per ASTM A653. Must use hot -dipped galvanized fasteners with these
products. Typically used for exterior wet conditions.
