Mainstreet Cupertino has evolved from many meetings over many years. The community was invited to
participate at 2 City-wide Community meetings. There have been numerous group meetings. Initially the
residents were not in favor of any housing on this site. Then the residents agreed to senior housing. Now the
senior housing can not be included because of financing; during the past several years Mainstreet Cupertino was
not started because of financing.
Some have requested that the entire project be constructed. in one phase, i.e., we do not want a vacant parcel.
This 17+ acre parcel has been vacant for countless number of years. The adjacent Rosebowl site would look
better as a vacant lot. The northeast corner of Wolfe Avenue and Vallco Parkway is a vacant lot. The
northwest corner of Wolfe Avenue and Stevens Creek was a vacant torn up parking lot for several years.
Apparently there may now be some movement on some of these properties.
A General Plan Amendment has been proposed and it has also been proposed that some property owners may
elected to plan a project concurrently with the General Plan Amendment process.
In my opinion Phase 1 of the Mainstreet Cupertino project which includes some phased construction in the west
part of the 17 acre parcel should proceed as Sandhill Properties has already stated will start in the very near
future, i.e. the fourth quarter of 2012.
The decision on the parcel in question today is a difficult one for the City Council, but the decision should not
be based on whether it may remain a vacant lot, financing is not available today, the parcel may be sold and the
City is unable to participate in its development.

Here is a bit more info from Ken Rodrigues related to the one answer I did get from Kevin Dare about
the changes.
Not sure I want to trust this without disecting the 'before and after' details, but info, just the same.
Some of my other questions... ones that did not get answered were related to flow and parking
spot location on new garage plan, demographic info from Santana Row home owners/renters,
reason for significant reduction in incubator space ( I speculate that this is related to addition of more
retail space in the loft/apt. parcel ), architectural design alterations (if any)
I have an incredibly busy work day tomorrow that I need to prep for tonight. I should be able to make
it to the meeting, but don't expect to have a chance to really review all of the material that is now
available on the city website. (BTW, I didn't get my automatic email to 'announce' tomorrow's
meeting... not sure why - this happens some times....).
At this point (right now), I don't have the kind of info 1:hat I would like to have to know what my opinion
of this new modification is.
Is it good, bad, or neutral ??? Don't know.
What I do know is that the manipulation of the process is frustrating, disappointing, and in
many instances it is disturbing on multiple levels.
What I ask from you is that you PLEASE ask ALOT of questions.... and be sure they are answered,
before you make a decision.
Just the facts... but ALL of them.... weed out the dogs and ponies if you can.

I am sorry you could not make the community meeting last night. I answered your question on the garage to the group last
night. I also asked Jennifer and Darrel to past on my comments to you as well. See my written response below to Aki Honda. I
explained that the garage is the same ht as approved with the exception of a ramp located in the center of the garage we
extended to approximately 59 feet. We did this to meet the parking stall requirement and remove mass and bulk from around
the garage.This ramp can not be seen anywhere from Main Street or the surrounding public streets because it is located in
the center of the garage. I also explained to the crowd last night how we have designed and engineered the garage to be

significantly smaller than the approved garage. We eliminated all of the previous parking we had over the retail shops and
incubator office space and pulled the east elevation back to the other side of the driveway to give more separation between
the office building and the garage.This was something you and some members of the city council brought up at the hearing
and asked us to look at this in the next stage of design. KRP and our parking garage consultant(International Parking Design)
have been re-designing the garage with this in mind.These changes resulted in the elimination of more than 30,000 sf of
concrete area and massing to the structure. Everyone was quite pleased with these changes last night and I will be happy to
discuss them with you next week at the hearing.

I wanted to respond to your email on the ht of the garage (previous approved design and now). I mentioned to the council at
the hearing the ht of the garage was 55 feet. The only reason for the 4 foot 11 inch increase is the ramp extension in the
center of the garage. If you recall Aarti asked us to add parking(which we did ). We did this by extending a ramp up from the
upper level in the center of the garage. She did not want us to exceed the 60 foot ht limit(which we don't).This allowed us
20+cars to add to our total to get up to the 1370 stalls we are proposing for the garage.This gives us the overall parking count
of 1,984 stalls which more closely aligns with the F & P parking study. I would describe the added ht. as a ramp extension in
the center of the garage which will only be visible from very far away from the site.The exterior parapet ht. around the entire
garage (as seen from points on-site or the sidewalks surrounding the garage will remain at the 55 foot ht as I have presented
in the past.

Unfortunately, I did not know of this meeting until just this moment when I read your email.
Very disappointing.
This is too short of notice for me to be able to juggle my schedule of other commitments, so I won't be
able to be there.
I wish that I knew what hole this fell in to.
I also just read an email sent earlier this evening by Kevin Dare (cc'd here).
As you know, I have concerns about the 'latest' proposed changes to the approved Main Street
project.
I asked Kevin to supply us with figures as to the change in height, etc of structures.
We are so often given minimal information - 'one dimensional', I would call it - when changes are
submitted.
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago when we met with Kevin, I am not only considering what 'use'
the buildings are changing from/to, BUT also what physical mass , traffic flow, design, etc. changes
will be proposed in order to accomodate the 'bait and switch' (as named by another resident).
Hilighted below is the information provide at this time. While it is a start, and I appreciate Kevin
remembering to follow up with one of the questions, I am still hoping for more information. It this is
truly going to be addressed at the Sept. 4 City Council meeting... my inability to attend tomorrow's
meeting could make fact finding difficult.
To me....an increase in garage height of nearly ten (10) feet is hugely significant. This data should be
volunteered in the presentation of 'modifications' in a situation such as this. Clearly...it is not as
simple as 'still having the same number of levels'. And that is only one peice of the puzzle !

submitted actual designs or elevation for this, but we intended the height to be +60'-0"to the roof.

Hi Lisa. You may have gotten this already. There is a Main Street Public
Meeting at the Marriott Hotel on Wednesday night, August 29, from 7 to
8:30 PM. They were supposed to put a notice on the city website.
I don't know if this Marriott is the one we met at before or if it is the
one behind it by the freeway.
