IRS # 52- 1647017 A Non Profit Organization November 1" 2013 Cupertino City Hall 10300 Torre Ave. Cupertino, CA 95014 Dear Council Members, Subject: Request to waive Creekside Park building fee CC 11 -4 -13 Item #22 Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh(HSS) is USA based voluntary, non- profit, social and family based cultural organization. HSS volunteers :meet every Sunday at the Creekside Park to participate in social and cultural activities which helps families to stay connected to their roots. This also helps families to assimilate with the community at large and enrich the diverse cultural fabric of our city. All activities are family based as we believe that stronger families are foundation to stronger society. We believe on the principle of selfless service (sewa) which is demonstrated in our action through many service projects. Following are sample of our regular Socio- cultural activities: Teacher Appreciation Day: An event to thZLnk the Guru (school teachers) and acknowledge their role in shaping student's life. Health for Humanity Yogathon: A 14 day yoga marathon to increase awareness of the benefits of Yoga. Universal Brotherhood Day: An event to thank the local city staff, fire fighters, Police and Council Members for their dedication to public service. Following is the glimpse of volunteer work performed by the HSS Cupertino Chapter. 1. City's events like Diwali Mela every year. 2. Participate in West Valley Community Services projects. 3. Participate in City sponsored Creek clean -up events. Regd. Office: 374 CARMITA AVENUE, RUTHERFO,RD, NJ 07070 www.hssus.org Email: samparl< @hssus.org Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, U.S.A., Inc. IRS # 52- 1647017 A Non Profit Organization 4. Organize and participate Blood donation drives across Bay Area. 5. Coordinate societal welfare programs such. as Surya - Namaskar (Sun Salutation) Marathon. As an organization we have mobilized hundreds of volunteers to provide medical aid, in -kind donations of food and blankets and even engaged evacuees in yoga and games to relieve their stress during Katrina disaster„ Besides, we also visit old -age homes, hospitals and soup kitchens to impart a sense: of service. We do not ask our volunteers for mandatory financial donation. We pay for our expenses from personal funds collected through optional contribution during a festival called Guru - Dakshina. Obviously we are very frugal with our expenses and we would love to put all the funds for overall community development. We would really appreciate if we can save the money paid in :renting Creekside Park building and instead use it for community events. We plan to make this request across all the cities in the Country. The forward thinking city like Cupertino could set it as an example of all the cities in the Country by approving our request. To reduce the pressure on City budget, we would love to take responsibility of opening and closing of park building during HSS event. If you have any questions please feel free. to call me @ 408 - 807 -5743 Sincerely, Sanjay Tripathi (HSS Cupertino Volunteer) Regd.
