TICC 08-04-2010W.1 Technology, Information & Communications Commission Regular Meeting August 4, 2010 MINUTES CALL TO ORDER Andy Radle called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Andrew Radle, Bill Allen, Wally Iimura, Peter Friedland, Commissioners absent: Avinash Gadre Staff present: Rick Kitson, Linda Lagergren Visitors: None APPROVAL of June 2, 2010 MINUTES 1. Peter Friedland made a motion to approve the minutes as submitted. Bill Allen seconded the motion. Motion passed. Approved 4 -0. COMMUNICATIONS 2. Oral: none WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS The Commission reviewed the following written communications. 3. May 24, 2010 — Letter from Comcast regarding ESPN 3D. 4. May 27, 2010 — Letter from Comcast regarding AnyRoom DVR. 5. June 30, 2010 — Letter from Comcast regarding customer bill changes. 6. July 6, 2010 — Letter from AT &T U- verse regarding programming changes. 7. July 20, 2010 — Letter from AT &T U -verse regarding channel lineup. 8. July 21, 2010 — Letter from AT &T U- verse regarding Hallmark channels. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 9. Discuss Work Program Subcommittee reports. Energy Efficiency Projects -- Solar and Energy Efficiency Projects Kitson reported on the progress the City is making on the streetlights and water projects. Kitson said the City has made some important steps, the project is moving forward. They are starting on all the water controllers at all the applicable schools. The crews are working on retrofitting all the streetlights and it is moving along well. What they thought was a six month project could take approximately four months. The fiber network project was officially adverti.sed and went out to bid. Wally Iimura volunteered to look at the City phone lines and bills to see if there was a way to save some money. Kitson said he spoke to the city manager and he was very interested. Kitson will arrange a meeting for Iimura to review the bills. Commission suggested inviting Richard Lowenthal or a representative from Coulomb to the October meeting to discuss the charging stations. Peter Friedland will work on getting a representative from Clearwire to attend a future TICC meeting. Wireless Tower Review Subcommittee — Peter Friedland reported that Clearwire has submitted several applications and Peter Friedland and Avinash Gadre have assisted in the review. The most recent application was appealed by the Planning Commission and then went on to Council. Peter Friedland as a representative of the TICCs spoke to the Council. Peter also reported that an AT &T tower application will be on the September 14`h Planning Commission agenda. NEW BUSINESS 10. Clearwire Rollout Progress — Jeremy Abler This item was continued to a later meeting when the Clearwire representative was available. 1 l.. Prepare for Council Commission Joint Meeting — August 17, 2010 The commissioners discussed what they would present at the joint Council /Commission meeting. The two questions that the Mayor wanted answered were — 1, What projects or responsibilities currently being handled by other commissions, could your commission contribute to? 2. What projects or responsibilities clarrently being handled by your commission, could other commissions help? REPORTS 12. Mayors meeting with Commissioners — Peter Friedland reported to the Commission on the June Mayor's meeting and Wall Iimura reported on-the July Mayor's meeting. 13. City of Cupertino — No report. MISCELLANEOUS 14. Activities Calendar -- The Commission reviewed the Activities Calendar. Peter Friedland moved to cancel the TICC meeting on September 1 and call a special meeting on September 8. Bill Allen seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed unanimously 4 -0. Bill Allen moved to cancel the TICC meeting on October 6. Wally Iimura seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed unanimously 4 -0. 15. Action Item List Review -- The Commission reviewed the action item list. ADJOURNMENT _ Wally Iimura / Bill Allen moved and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 9:25 p.m. Motion passed unanimously 4 -0.
