1. GALL TO ORDER
Chair Darcy Paul called the meeting to - order at 7:00 p.m. in the
Community Hall Council Chamber, 10350 Torre Ave., Cupertino, CA.

4. MISCELLANEOUS -NO ACTION REQUIRED
A. Staff oral reports
Director of Parks and Recreation, Carol Atwood distributed the
following:
1.) List of Park and Recreation activities April-May and copies
of articles from the Bay Area.News Group "McClellan Ranch
youth project moves ahead" and City of Menlo Park weighs
into the 'parklet' concept.
B. Commissioner Contacts
Chair Paul received an invitation to Civic Center Master Plan
workshop on May 14 and aSkled that another commissioner

attend: Commissioner Tambe volunteered to represent the
Commission.
Commissioner Tambe attended the Mayor's meeting for
commissions and was very interested in the history report given.
Commissioner Paulsen attended Earth Day event at our Civic
Center and interacted with MIG consultants doing survey for the
Stevens Creek-McClellan corridor master plan. Parkside trail
development group emailedI him to go out and see trail.
Commissioner Wilson (also a block leader) attended the Block
Leader recognition /meeting event held at Community Hall during
the Volunteer Appreciation week.
5. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
A. Regular meeting of April 3, 2014
Postponed approval to next Commission meeting in June.
6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS -
None
7. NEW BUSINESS
A. Presentation on, the FY 14/15 Capital Improvement Program
including Linda Vista Park ponds.
Katy Jensen, CIP Project :Manager, gave overview of all the
proposed new Capital Improvement Plan projects for Parks and
Recreation department, completed and scheduled by priority based on
capital funding and unfunded: projects for future consideration.
Discussion followed.
Ms. Jensen presented current photos from their investigation of
Linda Vista Park ponds. The pumps were surveyed and Public Works
discovered leakage at the side of waterfall. Discussion followed.
B. Verbal report on Lawrence/Mitty Linear Park
Carol Atwood gave history of the potential park, issues
surrounding use and previous Park & Recreation director discussions
with County. Currently on unfunded CIP project list. Ms. Atwood
recommended keeping this item on the 2014 Commission Work Plan and
follow-up in six months. Chair Paul proposed subcommittee to pursue
discussion with other parties on County Board. Chair Paul and
Commissioner Paulsen volunteered to participate and report back to
Commission.

Jennifer Griffin explained history of property and use by San Jose and
Cupertino residents. Ms. Griffin voiced desire to include this property in
the future process.
C. Investigate small neighborhood "pocket" parks; consider adding
events/games for children and seniors.
Carol Atwood explained pocket park concept per Commissioner
Paulsen's recommendation to pursue in Cupertino. Distributed copy of
an article from City of Menlo Parl!c referring to the "parklet" idea which
they are proposing. Discussion followed to establish policy and process
before identifying specific areas in City and involve Block Leaders. Ms.
Atwood will provide Menlo Park's staff report for another Commission
meeting and possibly have someorne from Menlo Park give their report.
8. OLD BUSINESS
A. Review FY 2013—2014 Work Plan
Recommended to add pocket park discussion to Work Plan for June 2014.
9. ADJOURNMENT—Chair Paul adjourned the meeting at 8:25 p.m.
