Thank you for the e-mail. I appreciate you sending the information about the redwood trees on the 280 frontage. Are these trees on Vallco property or are they on Cal Trans frontage? I think it is very important th have large holes appear in the Cupertino's frontage with 280 i when making any changes to it. 280, not just Vallco. The back and it also has redwoods along to be taken at the time of this frontage with 280 are preserved. s at the mature redwood coverage along 280 not be decimated or canopy. The redwoods at Vallco and all the length of a consistent redwood theme and much care should be exercised Redwoods appear in many other places along the frontage of pi arking lot of Macys against 280 may be built on at some point ts frontage with 280 and in other locations. Care will have lot's construction to make sure those redwoods along its There are also redwood trees along 280 further to the east of Cupertino by Tantau Avenue. All these trees provide valuable green canopy and foliage along the freeway frontage. If any redwoods are taken down along 280 in the Penneys back parking lot hotel construction, then large size replacement redwoods should be planted to replace them. Also, care should be taken to not have huge sections of trees taken down side by side so that the result is large gaps in the redwood frontage along 280. This looks awful and makes the resulting new construction stick out and not blend in gracefully with the rest of the surrounding area. The goal should be to have a lovely new hotel constructed in the rear parking lot area of Penneys beside 280 and have the new construction appear to have been there for many years by it fitting in gracefully with the surrounding area and surrounding trees. The canopy of the existing redwood trees along 280 at the back of the lot to integral to making this happen. This is the look and feel of our Cupertino Vallco and its environs. Thank you very much. I see the Environmental Review Committee is meeting tomorrow about the new hotel proposed for the back parking lot behind Penneys at Vallco which is up against Highway 280. I will try to come to the ERC meeting tomorrow. I am hoping all efforts will be made to save the redwood trees that border the parking lot property along 280. They are very tall, mature redwood trees and they provide a beautiful buffer between the shopping center and its buildings and the 280 highway. They make the area very green looking and they provide a continuous redwood tree screen along 280 as it passes through Cupertino and past Vallco. It is a wonderful hallmark of Cupertino to have the lovely green screen. I have not seen the other plans of the hotel, but I hope to tomorrow or are they on-line yet? When will this go to the Planning Commission? Thank you very much. Sincerely, Jennifer Griffin George Schroeder From: grenna5000@yahoo.com Sent: Thursday, August 21, 2014 11:44 AM To: George Schroeder Cc: grenna5000@yahoo.com Subject: Hyatt Signage Along 280 Hi George. I was wondering what the plans where for the Hyatt signage along 280? The drawings looked like the north side of the building would have a sign on the top of the hotel? Also, if I am not mistaken, I think the main Vallco Mall sign is at the rear of this lot next to 280. What are the plans for this mall signage? Will it be moved? I think the hotel may be too tall at five stories. There is nothing else there that is that tall. What is the height limit there and what will the resulting height in feet be of the hotel at five stories? Could the hotel be planned with four stories and still fit on the lot? Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Jennifer Griffin George Schroeder From: grenna5000@yahoo.com Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 2014 11:30 AM To: PlanningCommission@Cupertino.org Cc: George Schroeder; grenna5000@yahoo.com Subject: New Hyatt Hotel in Vallco Penneys Rear Parking Lot The Hyatt Hotel Chain is a very upscape hotel chain and I am sure the Cupertino Hyatt will be a lovely addition to the area. I am sure it will be very high class and elegant. Ricky's Hyatt House (and the Cabana) in Palo Alto on El Camino in the 1960s and 1970s was the premier social spot of the Bay Area. I hope that Cupertino's Hyatt House will be such a destination. The Penneys back parking lot is surrounded on three sides by nature redwood trees that shield the property from 280. Taking out the trees will make a big hole in the canopy. Cupertino's frontage with Highway 280 has redwood trees all the way down it from the Los Altos border to the Santa Clara border which is several miles. Vallco Shopping Center has redwood trees all over the shopping center and its boundaries with its neighbors. It also has redwood trees across is frontage with Highway 280. Taking out these trees will make big holes in the canopies. The back parking lot of Macys against 280 has redwoods along its frontage with 280. The owner of that property might want to take all those redwood trees out and that would make a big hole in the canopy along 280 also. Please make sure any redwoods removed from the Penneys back parking lot frontage on 280 are replaced with redwood trees. Also, could the Hyatt Hotel be four stories instead of five stories? Nothing is that tall in that area. The most is two stories. Please try to have the height be four stories. Please have the hotel have a nice sized reception room that the public can use for weddings, family reunions, etc. Thank you very much. Subject: NSA Wireless/Verizon Wireless installation of panel antennas in Cupertino High School Dear Sir/Madam, We recently received a notice of public hearing from the City about installation of panel antennas to light pole/s in Cupertino High School. We are extremely concerned about these antennas could potentially be hazardous to our health. As you know, the World Health Organization lists mobile phone use in the same "carcinogenic hazard" category as lead, engine exhaust and chloroform. Before its announcement in May of 2011, this agency had assured consumers that no adverse health effects had been established. We do not want to be the guinea pigs, putting our and our children's health in jeopardy. These Antennas should not be placed in any school! There are already antennas panel on one of the light pole in Cupertino High. We urge you to deny this application and consider removing all the pre existing antennas panel. Subject: concern on the installation of wireless antenna on cupertino high school sport field light To whom may concern, We are the residents of Cupertino High school neighborhood. Our address is 19132 Twig Ln, Cupertino, CA. We received a letter from NSA wireless, Inc regarding the Verizon Wireless's proposed installation of a new unmanned telecommunications facility in Cupertino High school. We are strongly against the proposal because it will be a great risk for the health of all High School students (More than 2000 current enrolled, more than 500 entering each year), who will stay under the facility everyday with more than 8 hours a day, and their parents, all nearby elementary school students and families , and all neighborhood residents. In May 2011, the World Health Organization classified radio frequency electromagnetic fields (include cell towers) possibly carcinogenic to humans based upon studies showing an increased risk of lethal brain cancer associated with wireless phone use. Moreover, we found out there are some wireless antennas already on one of light poles. We also appeal related departments to bring those antennas down. We believe cell towers are lethal radiation emitters. There have been countless studies and cases that have presented evidence that cell towers are the cause of serious illnesses. Studies of people and animals in the area where cell towers are placed show all kinds of stress reactions including sleep disorders, birth defects, cancer and Alzheimer's.
