Subject: Request for reinstatement - and an assurance
Dear Mayor Gilbert,
I had sent the following request to you some time ago. I will be present before the Council to make my request
or answer any questions tomorrow evening at 6:45 PM.
I do want to assure you that I will attend the last FAC meeting of my second term on November 24, 2014.
Furthermore, I would like to continue to serve the City and the Council in another commission. My desire
would be to serve as a Library Commissioner. But first things first.
I want to assure you that I am committed to serving my city.
Best Regards,
Jessi Kaur
Dear Mayor Gilbert,
I trust all is well with you.
This is to request a reinstatement as the Fine Arts Commissioner for the City of Cupertino.
I have been serving the Fine Arts Commission for the last 8 plus years and air nearing the end of my second
term. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the FAC. We brought out a handbook of guidelines for builders,
and more recently we worked on collating the Public Art in the City in a colorful handbook. I have been an
active and engaged member during my two terms.
We have only 6 scheduled meetings in a year: Out of these I have missed two; one on March 24th and the
second on September 22nd. We also had 3-4 unscheduled meetings.all of which I attended.
Let me explain why I missed two meetings.
In mid-March I had a liking accident while on a visit to Maui. A piece of the cartilage around my knee broke
and got embedded in a bone. It was very painful. I had to undergo surgery. I was unable to attend the meeting as
I was in excruciating pain with the knee joint randomly locking up.
The surgery was very successful and I went back to work. Last month,..early September the knee flared up
again. I had another MRI. There were two little pieces of the cartilage that were still floating around and
rubbing against the bone. The muscles had grown weak. Another surgery was not the answer but I had to go
back to Physical Therapy. On September 22nd when I came home from work I was struggling with pain and
also felt queasy in the tummy-perhaps the two were unrelated. At any rate I decided to rest on the couch for a
bit. I put on the alarin to wake ire up in time for the meeting. But I slept through it and woke up at night long
after the meeting was over. I guess my body was exhausted from battling the pain and the added queasiness. I
believe I did write a note of apology to Piu Ghosh.
I am still going through Physical Therapy and by God's grace I am getting stronger and better every week.
i
I hope the Council will understand my situation. I have one more FAC meeting to attend in November and
would like to finish my two terms .
Thank you so much for your kind consideration.
Best Regards,
Jessi Kaur

Hi, Grace,
y`y
Here is a further missive in response to your request:
Dear City Clerk and City Councillors:
The reasons for my absences, to the best of my recollection are:
April, personal travel
May, personal illness
August, veterinary emergency
November, personal travel
I had anticipated two absences--those occasioned by my personal travel. I
had not envisioned either my illness or my dog's as conflicting with
Library Commission meeting times. As I mentioned in one previous letter,
my absence in August occurred because both my husband and I serve the
city of Cupertino on citizen's Commissions. Our Commissions meet on
the same day, and (as currently serving Chair) his business with his
Commission took precedence on that occasion.
I foresee no issues with the remaining meetings in December, January, and
February. I believe that completes my current term. My fellow
commissioners have encouraged me to request, this reinstatement as they
find my participation useful and in the best interests of the city.
