SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
At 6:45 p.m. Mayor Rod Sinks called the Special City Council meeting to order in
Cupertino Community Hall Council Chambers, 10350 Torre Avenue and led the
Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL
Present: Mayor Rod Sinks, Vice Mayor Barry Chang, and Council members Darcy
Paul, Savita Vaidhyanathan, and Gilbert Wong. Absent: None.

ELECTION RESULTS
1. Subject: Announce election results for the General Municipal Election held on
November 4, 2014
The City Clerk Grace Schmidt announced the election results for. the General
Municipal Election held on November 4, 2014. For the three City Council seats,
the three people who received the most votes were Barry Chang, Savita
Vaidhyanathan, and Darcy Paul.
RECOGNITION OF OUTGOING COUNCIL MEMBERS
2. Subject: Council members and audience members are invited to say farewell to
Council members Orrin Mahoney and Mark Santoro. Please keep comments

The City Channel showed a video retrospective of Orrin Mahoney's years on the
City Council.
Mayor Sinks acknowledged Orrin Mahoney's long years of service as a Council
member and for various organizations and read-out his record of service for the
City of Cupertino. The Mayor and City Manager presented Orrin Mahoney with
a "memory box" gift full of mementoes of his time on the City Council.
The City Channel showed a video retrospective of Mark Santoro's years on the
City Council.
Mayor Sinks acknowledged Mark Santoro's service as a Council member and
read-out his record of service for the City of Cupertino and regionally. The
Mayor and City Manager presented Mark Santoro with a "memory box" gift full
of mementoes of his time on the City Council.
Mayor Sinks invited the Council members to say their farewells to Orrin
Mahoney and Mark Santoro. The Council members stated their thanks for all of
the contributions Orrin Mahoney and Mark Santoro had made while on the
Council.
Orrin Mahoney and Mark Santoro thanked their fellow Council members, and
City staff, and reminisced about their participation in community events and
work on the Council.
The Mayor invited members from the audience to speak.
The following individuals spoke on items 2-7 saying farewell to the outgoing
Council members, welcoming the incoming Council members, and
congratulating the new Mayor and Vice Mayor.

OATH OF OFFICE
3. Subject: Oath of Office is given to newly -elected Council members Barry Chang,
Savita Vaidhyanathan, and Darcy Paul
Barry Chang, Savita Vaidhyanathan, and Darcy Paul introduced their family
members.
City Clerk Grace Schmidt administered the Oath of Office to Council member
Barry Chang, Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian administered the Oath
of Office to Council member Savita Vaidhyanathan, and The Honorable
Judge Eugene M. Hyman (Ret.), Santa. Clara County California Superior Court,
administered the Oath of Office to Council member Darcy Paul.
MAYOR AND VICE MAYOR
4. Subject: Recognize Mayor and Vice Mayor
City Manager David Brandt announced that on December 2, 2014 the City
Council selected Barry Chang as Vice Mayor and Rod Sinks as Mayor.

5. Subject: Oath of Office is given to the new Mayor and Vice Mayor
Rod Sinks and Barry Chang introduced their family members.
Supervisor Joe Simitian administered the Oath of Office to Mayor Rod Sinks, and
City Clerk Grace Schmidt administered the Oath of Office to Vice Mayor Barry
Chang.
Gilbert Wong introduced his family members.
Mayor Rod Sinks presented a gavel plaque to Gilbert Wong in recognition of his
service as Mayor and City Manager David Brandt gave Council member Wong
luggage and a Council photo on behalf of the City employees.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
6. Subject: Comments by Council members and new Mayor
Newly -elected Council members Barry Chang, Savita Vaidhyanathan, and Darcy
Paul expressed thanks to Mark Santoro and Orrin Mahoney for their service to
Cupertino, everyone who had worked on their campaigns, their families for their
support, and Cupertino residents for electing them. The Council members also
thanked outgoing Mayor Gilbert Wong, congratulated incoming Mayor Rod
Sinks and Vice Mayor Barry Chang, and welcomed the incoming Council
members.
