Dear Vice Mayor Vaidhyanathan,
I read in this week's Cupertino Courier that the Council will be considering whether to change
the public input (time for public speaking and feedback) at City Council meetings. I am unable
to be at the meeting in which this choice will be made. As a long-time resident of Cupertino, I
would like to express my sincere wish that the current policy for public comment be unchanged.
Public commentary is a vital component to any City Council meeting. It is very difficult for a
council member to remain in touch with the citizenry if they do not have adequate means to
communicate their commentary to the City and Council.
I am aware that Council meetings run longer at times than might be desired: It is a necessary
part of having an engaged citizenry and part, I believe, of the job of Council to take such input,
no matter the length of the meeting.
Please take my input for the upcoming hearing and session on the public commentary. Thank
you for your time and consideration on this matter.
With best regards,
Richard Bemhardt
