Subject: Number 4--Barry Swensson and Loree Shopping Center
Dear City Council:
In Item Number 4 of the City Council meeting for July 5 (Barry Swensson property in Hosuing Element and Charities
Housing building housing there) they are proposing to put 19 units of housing on the 1/2 acre site, almost twice the amount
of housing allowed under the Housing Element (of Cupertino). Loree Shopping Center is one block east of this site on
Stevens Creek Blvd. and it is a Housing Element site also .
Does this mean that twice the amount of housing could be built on Loree Shopping Center at Tantau and Stevens Creek
Blvd. than is okayed there now for the Housing Element?
That means if it was okayed for 20 units they could put in 40 units? That site is already constrained and an additional 20
units would be mind-boggling in its effects on the property and its infrastructure and its environs.
I do not think that the Housing Element lots should be double in in housing size .
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Jennifer Griffin

Subject: Why is Item Number 4 on the Consent Calendar?
Dear City Council:
Why is Item Number 4---Barry Swensson project and Charities Housing for the Barry Swensson property on Stevens Creek
Blvd. in Cupertino on the Consent Calendar for the City Council meeting on July 5? This item has only gone to the Housing
Commission and it involves a sum of 3.6 million dollars for the city to allocate without some questions being answered.
One is the size of the 19 units. No one knows what the phusical dimensions of the units are. Are they 400, 500 or 600 square
feet? 400 square feet is very small. Will they let one or two people live in the units?
Also, why is the builder putting 19 units on the property when only 12 were allowed by the Housing Element one year ago.
The property is 1/2 acre and the amount allowed by the Housing Element Zoning on the property is 20 per acre so the
developer is asking for almost double the amount of units allowed by the Housing Element of Cupertino for the property.
This property was only recently put into the Housing Element (tow years ago at most) and it was okayed for 12 units. I do
not know if the actual property has been actually rezoned at a density of 20 units or not. I know the Housing Element said
they would rezone it, but I don't know how that is done or when.
Also, how much parking will the project have? The width of the property is only 79 feet wide.
Will there be one or two parking places per unit? Seniors do drive so there should be an adequate amount of parking places
to handle the people living there.
What are the dimensions of the proposed building? There are residential homes behind the property and an Affordable
Apartment complex to the east of the property with handicapped tenants. There needs to adequate setbacks from the
building because of the adjacent neighbors.
The 79 feet on the front of the property is in the Heart of the City and has the full 35 feet of public right of way currently on
the property and on the properties on either side. There should be no exceptions to Heart of the City at this location .
IS the office building to the west of the property involved in this project or in any future project for affordable housing or
housing of any type? This was mentioned at one point and would change the nature of the Barry Swensson property if it
did.
Also, maybe the city should buy this property for the city and put their own housing on it.
Is that possible or has that been explored??

I think this Item Number 4 of the Barry Swensson property and the Charities Housing should be put under Public Hearings
and not under Consent Calendar because there is too much that is unknown and has not been discussed about the project.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Griffin
