EDC 05-22-96 Economic Development Team Meeting May 22, 1996 Summary Present at the meeting were: Carol Atwood, Don Brown, Doug Huston, John Statton, Steve Dowling, Lauralee Sorensen, Donna Lawler, Bob Cowan, Bert Viskovich and Dorothy Steenfott. Carol Atwood reviewed the list of follow up items from prior meetings. Specific updates included: . A letter was sent to DeAnza College stating that the City would not be participating in their economic development project. DeAnza has now requested that the City participate as a key sponsor without monetary support and it was decided that the we would. . Bert Viskovich spoke to the attorney for Davidson Chevrolet (Century Auto Plaza) and was informed that they are continuing work on the project. . Carol Atwood, John Statton and Dorothy Steenfott met to discuss the welcome packet. The group proposed a multi-purpose brochure jacket which would reflect the theme of high-tech, education and environment. Internal inserts would be produced to accommodate an attraction packet and a retention packet. The attraction packet would include a video, welcome brochure, key contact list and chamber directory. The retention packet would include a welcome brochure, key contact list, and chamber directory. The interior sheets could be updated/tailored as needed. Steve Dowling will work on creating a design for the cover. . The group discussed the major business contact list and updated several items. John Statton will get additional contact information and provide a copy of the Chamber tech list for the next meeting. Current issues included the following: . John Statton reported on the Chamber business survey. He felt that the previous questions seem appropriate and requested input from the group. He suggested that option check answers on the survey would make the document more user fiiendly. . John Statton reported on the Cupertino Village Econ Development Brown Bag and Don Brown updated the group regarding the Whole Foods situation. . John Statton discussed the formation of Vallco Merchants Group. They will be meeting weekly and Carol and John will be attending. Karle Najemnik, the new Vallco Marketing Manager, will address our group once her business plan is in place. Because signage will be a key issue, Bert Viskovich was asked to follow up with Caltrans regarding fÌ'eeway off ramp signs for Valleo and Cupertino Village. Carol Atwood reported on the DeAnza Learning Center expansion which meets the group's criteria for a 21st century library concept. She suggested that the City market the facility and Bert Viskovich will invite someone from DeAnza to address the group on this project. . Don Brown gave an update on the status of REI. Bob Cowan stated that there would be more information in the next two weeks and will follow up again on the Fabricland concept. . Carol Atwood reported on the top 40 sales tax producers. She stated that these companies make up approximately 63% of our tax base. She reported that the sales tax numbers for December, 1995 look better than 1994. John Statton suggested that the top 40 should be incorporated into our site visits.
