Exhibit CC 05-16-2017 Study Session Item No. 1 Written Communication CC 05-16-2017 Study Session Item No. 1 Lauren Sapudar From: Sent: Saturday, May 13, 2017 3:54 PM To: City Council Subject: habitat restoration at mcclellan ranch Honorable Councilmembers: Concerning your upcoming budget considerations, I'd like to endorse the habitat restoration project going on in the McClellan Ranch meadow, listed on page 304 in the Recreation & Community Services section of the budget. The meadow was completely overrun with non-native invasive plants, with nasty Italian and milk thistle leading the pack. Three years ago, a large Water District grant got Acterra (and now its offshoot Grassroots Ecology, grassrootsecology.org) started establishing large "islands" of native plants in the meadow, with most of the soil preparation, planting, and weeding labor supplied by well-supervised volunteers, and water and mowing by the City. Most of the native plants are now well-established and thriving--but not ready yet to fend for themselves against the thistle and its ilk in the rest of the meadow. Please keep the effort going by approving Cupertino funding for the so-called Greenfingers project. Any questions?
