ADDRESS CHANGECit► Of CNperti"O TO: Jim Sisk, Planning Director [LATE: Dec. 3, 1975 FROM'. John Busto, Chief Building Inspector SUBJECI-..-Letter from Mrs. A. J. Berry Concerning Her Address Mrs. Berry's address is in conformance with our numbering system. She lives at the end of Deep Cliffe Dr. and St. Andrews Ave. In a normal sequence of numbering, her address is correct. Whenever two streets come together at 900 angle and streets have different names, the street is split evenly at a diagonal. (See Exhibit "A") Consequently, it is addressed in that manner. Our numbering procedure has been carried over from the County. This is illustrated by Exhibit "B", which shows a tract (Lynton Place) that was numbered by the County some years ago. We do not deviate from this because of the necessity of emergency vehicles finding the proper address. Prior to the Cupertino Building Department being formed, the County did all of the numbering. As for being rude to Mrs. Berry, I don't feel I was rude to her. She insisted that we had made a mistake when we numbered her property, and when she started to become upset, I told her that it was useless to continue the conversation and that she should write a letter to you requesting or stating her problem and request change of address, and that the change would have to come from you. As far as not making any errors in our addressing in 17 years, one reason is that all of the addresses in our tracts are reviewed by both County Communications and the Post Office to insure that an error is not made. When final addresses are assigned to a tract, a copy„of the final tract map is sent to County Communications, Post Office, Fire Department, Sanitary District, Registrar of Voters, Pacific Telephone Co., P.G.& E., garbage company, and owner or developer of the tract. The street numbers are not assigned to each unit of a tract but to streets based on their location with the grid system and whether they run east and west or north and south. Those streets running east and west have numbers in the 20,000 range, and the streets running north and south are in the 10,000 range. A.
