but wished Counoil to know that five seniors had to leave
Cupertino recently because of the cost of housing.

approve $221,900 for street improvements along Orange

businesses would be notitied if the ordinance were
approved. She.....s intormed that broohures would be _1led
to businesses. There would also be publioity in newspapers
and it was hoped the Chamber of Commerce would assist in
the notification of businesses.
Alf Modine stated that government should stay out ot the
office workplace.
Nancy Taylor of CUpertino asked for a definition of the

Jack Schroder stated that there was a RpubliC placeR
ordinance in eftect in Saoramento. It has been in ett..ot a
short time and there have been 500 oalls with 20 tormal
oomplaints. He addressed Counoil regarding the oost ~
enforce suoh an ordinance and stated that an awareness
progrSll could be Just as ettective. He urßed Counoil to
look at the ordinance and weigh it carefully.
TOlD Hollies, an employee in Cupertino, stated that he has
worked at his present place ot _ployment for five years
and that he and others have tried to get Rno SIIOIc1ngR in
the workplace to no ava1l.
Charles Mosson, Calitornians tor Iion-Slllokers Rights, stated
that it U7 not be legally possible to exclude.all
businesses t'roIII such an ordinance. Be suggested that

informed Council that Nt. View has an excellent brochure

one proposed tor Cupertino. Be suggested that the word

Margaret Leathers of the Aaerican Lung Association stated
that the Association is experienced in helping cOlDpanies
prepare a policy. She also stated that the Association
would be happy to work with the City to forward intormation
about its ordinance and also to take phone calls regarding
oomplaints.

needs to act quickly as land for development is
