Mayor Rogers read a proclamation daclartnl October as Toast..stera Month
in Cupertino and presented it to a repreaeutative of the Toaat..ar.era.
Mayor Rogers read a resolution declaring the week of October 5-11, 1980
as Fire Prevention Week in the City of Cupertino and presented it to a
representative of Central Fire Protection District.
Mayor Rogers read a resolution requesting all citizens of Cupertino to
celebrate Tuesday, October 7, 1980 as National Guard Day and presented
the resolution to Councilmember Sparks as he is a member of the National
Guard.
27. De An:ra Oaks Homeowners' Assocation requesting revision of City's
grading and retaining wall ordinance.
Retaining wall Mr. Bob Hawn, De Anza Oaks HOllleowners Association, addressed Council
ordinance regarding construction of a retaining wall. Council requested that this
item be agendized for October 14, 1980 for possible enactment of an
urgency ordinance.

mended for denial.

and G and this aatter be referred back to the Planning Commission with
this recommendation.
Counc. Gatto amended the motion that the Planning Commission reevaluate
the residential density at the same time. This amendment was withdrawn.
Counc. Gatto then seconded the motion with the amendment that the Planning
Commission institute a residential limit of ten dwelling units per acre
on Areas F and G. Counc. Sparks accepted the amendment. The amendment
was defeated with Councilmembers Plungy, Sparks and Mayor Rogers voting
no. The ~tion for the office/commercial option was approved unanimoUSly.
Consideration of these areas will be heard prior to the hearing on the
overall General Plan.

principle the policy of the proposed Economic Development Objectives and
Policies for ABAG and stipulating that the community will look forward to
the review of the implementation plan for a more detailed analysis of the
problems. The Mayor will also suggest that ABAG board ask their staff
to evaluate the compatibility of this policy guide with the Santa Clara
