CALIFORNIA 327.7930 CIVIL ENGINEERS GEOLOGI STS File No. 1261 October 30, 1968 Mr. F. Dennis Burrow 644 University Los Gatos, California RUN OCT 3 1 1968 BLDG. INSPECTrON DEPARTMENT CITY OF CUPERtINO Subject: Speedee Seven -Eleven Site Blaney and Stevens Creek Boulevard, Cupertino SOIL .INVESTIGATION Gentlemen: At your request and authorization we have conducted a soil investigation at the subject site. The purpose of this investigation has been to determine the stability of the site to support the proposed construction. In addition the site had apparent fill and it was desired to establish the thickness of this fill. Two test borings were advanced using a truck mounted drill rig. These test borings were advanced to depths of 15 feet and were logged by the super- vising engineer. The results of these borings are graphically reproduced on the accompanying logs of test borings. The borings encountered an upper layer of loose fill material which consisted of a mixture of various imported soils. Below this depth in both borings are Sand and Gravels to a depth of 15 feet below grade. The material is very dense and only slightly moist. Prior to construction the site must be properly stripped to a depth of 1 foot below existing grade. This material may be utilized as fill if needed providing it is placed in accordance with the recommended grading specifications. The material used as compacted fill or the natural ground below one foot will provide an allowable bearing capacity of 2500 p. s. f. This value may be increased by 1/3 for seismic or temporary loading. The recommended foot- ing is a continuous perimeterplaced a minimum of 12 inches. Adequate rein- forcing must be provided top and bottom of all footings. -2 - The surface soils are non -plastic and therefore are non -expansive. Slabs on grade construction is feasible providing certain precautions are taken. For slab on grade we recommend the following section be used: 1. prepared subgrade, compacted to 90% 2. 4" crushed rock 3. visqueen or similar moisture barrier 4. Minimum 4" reinforced concrete Slabs constructed in this manner will prove satisfactory. All roof drainage must be directed away from foundation areas. Ponding of water adjacent to footings must not be permitted. Pavement sections have not been within the scope of this report. However, we recommend a minimum of 2 " AC over 4" base rock (C-2). The recommendations of this report are based upon the assumption that the soil conditions do not deviate from those disclosed in the borings. If any variations or undesirable conditions are encountered during construction, or if the proposed construction will differ from that planned at the present time, Crosby and Associates should be notified so that supplemental recommenda- tions can be given. This report is issued with the understanding that it is the responsibility of the owner, or of his representative, to ensure that the information and recommen- dations contained herein are called to the attention of the Architect and Engineers for the project and incorporated into the plans, and that the necessary steps are taken to see that the Contractors and Subcontractors carry out such recommen- dations in the field. Should you have any further questions, please contact this office. Very truly yours, CROSIBY AlIW ASSOCIIAYIES Jan J. Wellhausen CJo K. Crosby C.
