YAC SOCIAL ▪Event that happens every fall/winter which brings together all Youth Commissions/Committees/Teen Advisory Boards from different cities in Bay Area ▪Commissioners voiced opinions on teen-related topics and discovered special events or programs each city does which helps improve their community ▪Prepare for YAC Attack in March 2018 4 YAC ATTACK ●Bi-annual youth leadership conference coordinated by Cupertino Recreation and the Youth and Teens Recreation Services (YTRS) ○Attended by teens from Bay Area ○1st time event will be held in Cupertino ○Theme: Seas Every Opportunity ○Quinlan Community Center: March 10th, 2018 5 YES CONFERENCE ▪Event that brings together middle & high school students from the 9 SF Bay Area counties to discuss solutions to collaborate/share ideas on sustainability and climate solutions. ▪February 24, 2018 - Laney College ▪Commissioners will be attending for 3rd year in a row 6 PROJECTS Projects that the Teen Commission is currently working on. TEEN WORKSHOPS ●Teen Workshops for teens, by teens ●Goals: ■Give teens the opportunity to share knowledge with other teens ■Give teens the opportunity to learn new things they wouldn’t learn @ school ●Workshops will be held at teen center 8 HACK CUPERTINO 2018 ▪13 hour long hackathon at Quinlan Community Center in conjunction with Cupertino Recreation. ▪Last Year: Topic areas focused around public safety and community connectivity ▫Over 100 attendees ▪Occurring on April 14-15 of 2018 ▪Topic: TBD 9 FUHSD BRIDGE ▪ ▪ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ 10 VOLUNTEER INITIATIVES 11 ●Teen Commission giving back to Cupertino Community ○Tree Lighting Event: December1st ○Gift of Hope (WVCS): December 16th TEEN CENTER OUTREACH ●Commission will continue working with Recreation staff on doing outreach for Teen Center ●Will make suggestions for facility improvements ●Intend to make the Teen Center a place for kids to destress, socialize, and study. 12 ADDRESSING TEEN STRESS 13 ▪ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ SOCIAL HOST ORDINANCE ▪ ▪ ▪ 14 A Final Thanks 15
