The Mayor stated that the purpose of the adjourned meeting was
to intervlew' candidates fo r the position of Planning Commissioner.
Two applicants had submitted applications: Mr. Walter M. Fitch,
10521 Davison Avenue and Mrs. Claude Giddings, 20375 Silverado Av-
enue. Discussion of the qualifications of the candidates was held.
Moved by Councilman Jewett that Mr. Walter M. Fitch be appointed
to succeed Verne Jewett as Planning Commissioner; Seconded by
Councilman Lazaneo.

Councilman Saich reported to the Council regarding the proposed
maintenance program that had been suggested by the Trafficways
Subcommittee. He stated that under the proposal that if the
County maintained City owned major streets that they would be
under the complete jurisdiction of the County. He felt that
the City should control its major streets and that a letter
should be directed to the Trafficways Committee outlining the
city's position in this regard. After considerable discussion,
the Council felt that more information should be had on this
matter and directed the City Manager to investigate it further.
Councilman Lazaneo stated that property owners on the westside
of Highway 9 from Stevens Creek to Bollinger be contacted re-
garding the widening of Hlghway 9. He felt that if a petition
were circulated among the property owners that the greater per-
centage would be in favor of the improvement.
Moved by Councilman Lazaneo that a petition be circulated for
the improvement. This is to be designated as the first phase
of Highway 9 improvement; Seconded by Councilman Jewett.

Moved by Councilman Lazaneo that upon completion of the first
phase of the Highway 9 Program that the second phase be immedi-
ately started; Seconded by Councilman Benetti.

ABSENT: Councilmen: None
MOTION CARRIED: 5-0
Councilman Lazaneo commented on the poor condiüons of Bollinger
Road and said that he was confident that the property owners on
the northside of Bollinger from Blaney Avenue to Highway 9 would
be in favor of a L.I.D.
Moved by Councilman Saich that a petition be circulated to the
property owners in this area and for the formation of a L.I.D.;
Secondpd by Councilman Jewett.
