II THE 11INUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING 9/17/56 were read and the
following corrections were noted: Item IV-E-line 2, delete the
sentence beginning "In other words"; Item V-D-line 14, change
"wondered" to "inquired".
III PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS
A. Written
1. A letter from !'larlais and Hover requested a copy of
Cupertino's Subdivision Ordinance, if already adopted,
and offered assistance in preparing same in the event a
Subdivision Ordinance has not already been enacted.
B. Oral
~r. Torre from South Blaney Avenue put in a request for a
street light near his house. He lives within the Street
Lighting District, but says there is no electrolier near-
by, The Council promised to give consideration to his
request,
IV UNFINISHED BUSIIŒSS
A. Ordinances for Adoption - Civil Defense
Councilman Saich moved that the title and headings only be
read; seconded by CouQcilman Nathanson and carried 4 - O.
Upon reading of the title and section headings, Councilman
MeyerhÇ>lz moved that the Civil Defense Ordinance be adopted,
seconded by Councilman Nathanson and c,'lrried l.¡, - O.
B. Opening of Bids for Street Project
The Mayor opened the sealed bids and announced that McCarthy
& Spiesman had submitted the low bid of $2,472.00. Council-
man Meyerholz moved that the contract be awarded to the low
bidder; seconded by Councilman Saich and carried 4 - o.
C, Street Lighting Hearing
Mr. Torre was interested in the street lighting question but
did not register a formal protest. He simply felt that his
area needed a light and that he was entitled to lighting
eventually since he was in the assessment district. Council-
~Nathanson moved that the hearing be closed and that the
Attorney be instructed to draft a Resolution necessary to
create the district; seconded by Councilman Saich and
carried 4 - O.
D. Sales Tax
The City Council heard a reading of the. agreement for State
administration of the local Sales and Use Tax Ordinance for-
warded by Santa Clara County Counsel. Councilman Heyerholz
moved that a Resolution, No. 30, be adopted authorizing the
Mayor to execute this contract; seconded by Councilman Saich
and carried 4 - 0,
E. HomeStëad '3-C Re'~ort
It was stated that the protests reðistered at the hearing
amounted to less than fifty percent of the territory of the
annexation including improvements. City Attorney Anderson
said that an Ordinance would be prepared for the next
meeting~

F. Miscellaneous
Councilman Meyerholz requested that Mark Thomas' Office be
authorized to prepare the map and legal description for the
"Revised Stelling" annexation, As the Council expressed
approval, Councilman Meyerholz moved that Mark Thomas prepare
the paperwork for the aforementioned annexation; seconded by
Councilman Saich and carried 4 - O^

Mr. Anderson reported that two or three Ordinances were
pending and would probably be ready for reading the following
week.
B. Report of rtoads and Maintenance Commissioner
None
C. Report.of..Xolice and Fire Chief
1. Councilman Nathanson read a letter from Sheriff Hawley
saying that he expected to install radar equipment within
the City Limits shortly.
2. The City of Santa Clara favors the name of Stevens Boule-
vard for Stevens Creek Road. Councilman Nathanson moved
that we adopt a Resolution expressing fåVor for the name
"Stevens Boulevard" seconded by Councilman l'Ieyerholz and
~rriedJL~Q. The City Clerk was asked to relay this
information to the City Clerk of Santa Clara and tell him
that such a Resolution has been passed.
D. Miscellaneous
1. Counci'ïmãñ Nathanson called attention to a current news-
paper article on the subject of borough systems, as
exemplified by the Toronto metropolitan district.
2. The City Clerk was asked to notify Leonard Bushnell that
Cupertino has Contracted to seal coat Stevens Creek Road
from Blaney to the City Limits except for the 700' which
lies within County jurisdiction.
3. Mayor ',111son appointed Councilman Saich as Street Lighting
Commissioner to coincide with his present position. On a
motion by Councilman Saich, seconded by Councilman Nathan-
son, and carried 4 - 0, Councilman Lindenmeyer was named
Park Commissioner.
