A first reading was held on a Civil Lefense Ordinance. The
motion of the Septenilier 10th meeting appointing Shelley
Williams and Howard E. Mallette as Coordinator and Assistant
Coordinator, respectively, was amended to make them Director
and Assistant Director instead.
B. Homestead #3-C Hearing
Mrs. Ivancovich, daughter of John P, Gluhaich, registered
a protest against the annexation. She gave as her reason the
fact that she and her family intended to continue to farm.
The family is not interested in selling the property. She
reasoned that prohibitive City taxes might make farming
impossible.
A Mr. Cummings, representing his father, protested the
inclusion of the family fifteen acres on the basis that annexa-
tion would hurt a pending sale. The rrospective buyer would
prefer not to be in Cupertino, nor in any City.
Councilman Meyerholz moved that the hearing be closed and
that the findings be presented at the following meeting;
seconded by Councilman Nathanson and carried 4 - o.
C. Setback and Curb for Texaco Station
The City Council felt that the matter should be referred to
the ~lanning Commission, since the negotiations had taken
place with that Body.

E. Agreement for maintenance of State Highway in the City
The State shares the cost of traffic signals on the basis of
streets served. In other words, if there were three City
streets intersecting or converging at a particular corner
and two State streets, the State would pay 2/5 of the cost
of maintaining the signals. The City Council felt that
maintenance should be based on traffic flow and requested
that a count be taken (if this has not already been done) to
determine approximate proportion of_traffic driving east and
west as compared to north and south.

D. Report of Police and Fire Chief
Councilman Nathanson reported that a Chief of Police badge
had been ordered.
He urged the Planning Commission to develop a Sign
Ordinance that would prove enforceable. The County is having
considerable trouble with theirs.
He su~gested the appointment of four or five reserve
patrolmen, to be used at points of traffic congestion caused
by public gatherinßs of one sort or another.
Councilman Nathanson also suggested that a pedestrian
crossing stanchion be considered for the Post Office crossing
on Highway 9, at some time in the future.
The Council asked that J. C. Black be questioned concerning
the State attitude toward parking along the commercial strip
between the Bank and the corner. The Council wondered whether
