III READING 08 MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
A. The Clerk was instructed to read the minutes of the previous
meeting, which were approved as read.
IV. PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS
A. Written
1. A mimeographed letter from Anthony Hamann, City Manager of
San Jose, was read. The letter expressed San Jose's
attitude toward the proposed Uniform S~les Tax.
V, UNFINISHSD BUSINESS
A. Ordinances for adoption
1. The Clerk read Ordinance No. 11, ~n Ordinance approving
the annexation of certain contiguous uninhabited territory,
designsted "Homeste"d No. 'l-C", to the City of Cupertino
in accordance with the provisions of Section 353-0 et seq.
of the Government Code of California, Moved by Councilman
Wilson that the Ordinance be approved; seconded by Council-
man Nathanson, and carried 5 - O.
2. Moved by Councilman Nathanson that Ordinance No, 12,
"Homestead 2-C" be 8pproved; seconded by Councilman Saich,
and carried 5 - o.
VI NEW BUSINESS
A, Attorneys report; See V
1. Vehicle License Tax
Councilman Nathanson felt that the City needed to minimize
the administration and enforcement problem. For that
reason he favored the use of a flat fee, or as few cata-
gories as possible, Councilman Nathanson moved that
wholesale trucks be charged a license fee of ~25.00, that
any trucking firm originating in the City pay the same,
any retail vehicle doing business from within the City
to pay $25,00, that retailers from without the City be
charged $25.00 plus $10.00; seconded by Councilman Saich
and carried 5 - O.
2. Taxi Ordinance
~fter a short general discussion on the subject, a copy
of San Jose's Taxi Ordinance WAS produced And the Council
agreed to hold the first reading on such an Ordinance,
Sections 16, 17 and 2Ö were stricken, and certain other
deletions and substitutions were made.
3. Councilman Saich moved that City Attorney ,nderson proceed
to prevent encroachments on Cupertinots annexations;
seconded by Councilman Wilson and carried 5 - 0, City
I.ttorney Anderson requested that George Olr3eh')usen be
authorized as his associate. The Council agreed 5 _ o.
4. Franchise ContrAct
City Attorney Anderson reported thet he would shortly
contact Mr. Love of Pacific Gas & Electnc Com;::my for
the purpose of effecting a franchise.
5, Street Lighting
Councilmen Meyerholz said that the street lighting district
is subject to the Streets and Highways Code of California.
B. Report of Finanoe Chairman
Councilman Meyerholz reported receiving ~87.19 during the
course of the meeting, He added that the City's bank
balance SlS of Harch 1st W''IS approximately $500,00.
C, Report of Ro~ds and Maintenance Commissioner
Councilman Meyerholz said that he h9d been confronted by
property owners wondering what the route of the proposed
freeway would be, He said that County Planners are of
the opinion that we should push the Lawrence Station
Route. He felt that Cupertino should act in conjunction
with County Planners so that the Highway doesn't destroy
local property value, The proposed Route appears to be
bisecting famous landmarks in the area, He felt that
Lawrence Station Road should be an arterial roadway,
Present plans will tend to bring all westbound traffic
from Campbell and San Jose down Stevens Creek Road.
Councilman Nathanson moved that the Mayor appoint a
committee of twc to work with the City Pl<mning Commission
and the County St8ff in order to determine the best pos-
sible route from a regional standpoint; seconded by
Councilman Saich, and carried 5 - O.
Councilman Nathanson said that the Engineers are
anxious to know the attitude of Cupertino on the proposed
freeway, since Cupertino will evidently be a junction for
the highwayo
D. Report of Police and Fire Chief
1, Councilman Nathanson designated several pieces of mail for
forw8rding to the Sheriffts office.

G, Miscellaneous
1. The Clerk was asked to send a copy of the first tentative
budget to each member of the Council.
H. Good and Welfare of City
1, The Council w~s interested in h8vin~ as many people as
Possible attend the forthcoming meeting with the Cupertino
School Trustees concerning the purchase of the condemed
school,
2. Mr, Jet and Mr, McCandless spoke on the subject of
sanitary engineering work for the City, They solicited
any future work that the City might have in this line.
