INFORMAL COUNCIL DISCUSSION
I. POLICE AND FIRE PROTECTION
A. It was agreed by the Council, Police Chief Nóthanson would contac i;,
Sheriff Hawley in regards to compensated services available to the
Ci.ty of Cupertino. Chief Nathanson will submit a budget based on
Sheriff Hawley's estimvte, 1/3/56.
II. REVIEW OF CITY CLERK APPLICATIONS
A, Names of applicants were read to the Council. No decision rendered,

1. Finance Chairman Meyerholz stateL he was waiting for the purchase
order for City Limit signs to be completed by the Secretary for
his signature.

~50,oo may be purchased as needed. The Secretary was instructed
by the Chair to request a monthly statement for supplies issued
by the Cupertino School District, to the City.

1. Councilman l<~yerholz was instructed to make inquiries with another
bank in regards to underwriting salaries for City emplqyees.

B. City Attorney's Report
1. City i..ttorney Sam Anderson stated the Planning Commission has
discovered an omission in the City boundaries map of approximate~
two acres of property owned by Mr, Lester; suggested the City
employ Mr. Mark Thomas to correct this error before February 1,
1956. Moved by Councilman Nathanson, seconded by Councilman
Meyerholz and carried unanirnous~ the 6ity employ Nr. Hark Thomas
to make all necessary corrections in the City map.
Moved by Councilman Meyerholz, seconded by Councilman Saich and
unanimous~ carried, the annexation of the Cupertino De Oro Club
property be approved by the Council and the prescribed legal steps
followed.
C. Report of Finance Chairman
1. Chairman l'1eyerholz reportGd the Cupertino Kiwanis Club had donated
~lOO.OO to the City toward the purchase of office oquipment. The
Secretary was instructed to prepare a letter of thar.ks fer the
gUt.
2. Chairman Meyerholz stated he would donate the post effice box rent.
D. Report of Roads and l'1aintenance Commissioner. No Report.
E. Report or Police 2nd Fire Chief.
1. Police Chief Ne.thanson sta.ted he would prepare a budget as requested
by the Finance Chairman 1/3/56.
F. Report of Building and Health Inspector. No Report.
G, Report of Planning Commission,
1. Planning Commission Chairman Leonard stated the next meeting will be
held 1/4/56t and
2. Mr. Charles Baer's gas station located at the cofner of Stevens
Creek Road and Highway 9 is zoned C-I-H; the architectural plans
for replacement of the gas station have been approved by the
County architect.
H. Miscellaneous
I. Good and ¡'¡eLfare of City.
1. Co~ncilman Nathanson reported the Cupertino Fire House personnel
had received a baremeter and Christmas tree from the City officials.
2. General discus pion by the Council concerning the need fer a Civil
Defense Director and a Director of Parks and Recreation. The Coun-
cil agreed to select these twe directers from the Volunteer
Citizens Committee,

VII. PETITIONS AND COM1UNICATIONS
A. Written
1. Mr. George R. Hilby, 85 E. San hntenio St., San Jose, Application
for the position of City Engineer. The Secretary was instructed
to file this application.
B. Oral
1. }!r. Joe Sarci requested a permit to construct a shopping center.
The matter was referred te the Planning Co~nission.
